This position provides advanced biomechanical support toward the accomplishment of key corporate initiatives. The individual is responsible for coordinating and executing projects ranging from materials characterization to product performance, using advanced biomechanical knowledge and associated skill sets. The individual is responsible for conducting technical work in a timely and efficient manner, and for reporting results to the project team and management. The individual provides recommendations on existing and emerging products based on technical data and scientific reasoning.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Performs all phases of biomechanical research, from method development through final documentation, in order to address biomechanical questions related to device safety and performance. This work may include benchtop testing, tribological evaluation, and/or computational analysis, based on the skills and interests of the individual. Provides technical assistance to other departments within Zimmer Biomet (Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, etc.) to support maintenance of existing products. Designs and drives biomechanics research projects including development of new tools or methods, to support future designs and/or to increase fundamental biomechanical understanding. Presents the results internally, as well as within international conferences and peer reviewed journals when appropriate. Improves the operational efficiency of internal practices, and supports the continuous improvement of both internal and external (standardized) methods. Expected Areas of Competence
• A Ph.D. or M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related discipline required. Candidates possessing a bachelor's degree with applicable prior work experience will also be considered. • 5-7 years medical device experience preferred, particularly in orthopedic industry
• Minimum of a BS in Science, Engineering, or related discipline (MS or PhD preferred), with 5-7 years experience in an academic or industry setting. • Experience in orthopedics or medical device field is desirable.
