Ticket Checker (Mountain Access Attendant) Winter 2024/25 (Personal Services)



SUMMARY
Operates lifts in a safe and efficient manner by assisting guests to use the lifts, performing inspections, safety checks and maintaining loading/unloading areas before opening and throughout the operating day. Ensures guests are seated correctly and safely; slow and stop the lift as needed. Identify and respond to emergency situations by following appropriate emergency procedures. Interact with guests to provide exceptional guest service and efficient, safe lift riding. A key part of every employee's job is to serve as a Targhee ambassador, engaging the guest at every opportunity.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESInclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Responsible to report to work in appropriate uniform and follow grooming/appearance standards.
2. Attend daily meetings and participate in safety discussions and training.
3. Ensure that all mechanical components are functioning properly by checking and performing routine inspections and notifying Lift Maintenance personnel of any abnormalities.
4. Perform lift start-up procedures including return station checks, drive station checks and line check. Test stops, speed controls, indicator lights, switches, brakes, etc.
5. Set up lift maze at beginning of day and assist with maintenance of the maze area throughout the day. Disassemble and store maze materials at the end of the day.
6. Remove and maintain snow surfaces around lift mazes, loading areas, terminal areas, unloading ramps, and operator stations utilizing a variety of hand and power tools. Common tools include shovels, scoops, rakes, ice picks, pickaxes, power drills, snowblowers, etc.
7. Monitor the condition of the loading/unloading ramps throughout the operating day and perform maintenance and repair as needed.
8. Operate lifts safely and efficiently by following established procedures outlined in the Lift Operations Manual and training programs.
9. Understand the use of the operator controls, fault displays, and emergency procedures. Be able to communicate fault indications and information to the dispatcher and Lift Maintenance personnel.
10. Ensure safe loading, riding and unloading of the lift by assisting guests, providing instructions to inexperienced lift riders and monitoring passenger behavior.
11. Assist guests unloading the lift by visually observing and monitoring the unloading station and providing verbal instructions when needed.
12. Slow or stop the lift as needed to assist guests in safely loading or unloading the lift.
13. Retrieve dropped skis, poles, clothing or other belongings for guests.
14. Continuously monitor the operation of the lift and communicate concerns or problems to supervisors and Lift Maintenance personnel.
15. Utilize telephones, two-way radios and lift intercom systems to communicate between lift stations, supervisors, Lift Maintenance personnel and the mountain dispatcher.
16. Provide superior service to our guests and fellow employees by greeting, interacting, answering questions and providing resort information.
17. Conduct lift maze traffic controlling as skier volume dictates. Ensure orderly and fair lift line flow is established and maintained.
18. Respond to all guests and employees in a courteous manner and professional manner.
19. Positively contributes to the team effort by assisting other staff as needed.
20. Perform closing procedures by clearing all riders from lift and performing lift shutdown procedures. Secure motor rooms, lift houses and tools.
21. Participate in incident investigations by filling out incident reports.
22. Complete required paperwork to document daily lift operations, including inspection reports, stop logs and checklists.
23. Perform other tasks as assigned.
24. Remain flexible with work location assignments, hours, and tasks depending on business needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES TO SAFETY
1. Protect the safety of self-workers, and Grand Targhee Resort guests.
2. Report any potentially harmful equipment or situations to the immediate supervisor without delay.
3. Report safety-related accidents and incidents at once to immediate supervisor.
4. Follow all company and department safety policies and procedures as outlined in the Resorts Occupational Safety & Health Compliance Manual and department-specific procedures or manuals.
5. Skis within ability level, taking safe and direct routes of travel. Follows Skiers Responsibility Code.
6. Operate equipment safely so that it will not lead to injury to yourself or others.
7. Drive in accordance with the law and Grand Targhee Resort policies.

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school graduate or GED preferred. Attend and successfully complete provided training classes and sessions. Minimum 18 years of age. Skiing/riding experience preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
High level of communication with coworkers and resort guests. Greet customers congenially and answer various questions about ski trails, weather and snow conditions, lift schedules and riding time, and general information about the resort and area. Read and understand manuals, safety signs, machinery control labels, warning placards and indicator panels as printed.

REASONING ABILITY
Must be able to read, understand and abide by policies, procedures, and training material. Must be able to make decisions within established parameters, seeking guidance from more experienced or supervisory staff when needed, and react quickly to emergency situations.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Depending on workstation assignment, the employee may be required to have the physical dexterity to ski/ride designated routes safely in a variety of snow conditions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee will work outside regularly in all weather conditions, including extreme cold and heat. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Work environment includes noise from Motor Rooms of lifts, off-road vehicles and machinery working in the area.
