Loan Review Officer (Finance)



SUMMARY :

Review consumer, mortgage, commercial real estate, and C&I loans to ensure loan quality, adequate documentation, and risk rating. Primarily works on medium complexity relationships with minimal assistance.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :

  • Authors analysis and reports without supervision with respect to consumer, mortgage and medium complexity commercial loan transactions
  • May manage relationship reviews that involve some inter/intra-company analysis, may include C&I and syndicated C&I
  • Work on special projects as needed with minimal assistance
  • Independently resolve open issues with loan officers and loan operations
  • Identify and recommend best practices and improvements to loan review processes and procedures
  • Present loan review findings to management and board
  • Ensure that acceptable credit standards are maintained
  • Ensure all loans confirm to the bank's lending policies and relevant state and federal laws and regulations
  • Analyze and document Large Loan Relationships (LLR) and other Concentration loan segments as established by the Loan Review Scope approved by the Board of Directors
  • Analyze all pertinent financial information and guarantor(s) and noting where inadequate information exists
  • Evaluate collateral coverage and stress testing values of collateral, where appropriate
  • Interact with Loan Officers and support staff to obtain pertinent information on loan(s) and relationship
  • Document individual loans and entire relationship in Loan Review template, for distribution to the Loan Officer and Management
  • Ensure the credit worthiness of the loan portfolio and concentrations within the portfolio
  • Validate the accuracy of the risk rating / loan grading system and completion of loan matrix
  • Determine if any impairment exists and make appropriate referrals for non-accrual considerations and individual impairment analysis
  • Identify trends (positive or negative) within the overall portfolio and by segments, including product type, lenders, regions and concentrations
  • Review concentration levels during Concentration segment reviews against guidelines and recommend adjustments when risk levels appear elevated.
  • Review bank's processes to monitor adequacy and effectiveness of tracking systems (financial information, insurance, etc.); proper approval procedures and adherence to loan authorities; improper disbursement of funds or potential fraud
  • Advise management of current and potential loan problems, including identifying problem loans and ensuring proper Risk Rating assignment
  • Assess problem loan management / workout plan effectiveness
  • May be asked to pull loan files and collect documentation for regulatory review or internal audits.

JOB REQUIREMENTS :

  • Bachelor's degree, or high school diploma plus relevant work experience
  • Previous loan review experience or credit underwriting analysis, preferably in Commercial banking

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED :

  • Clear understanding of lending laws and regulations
  • Clear understanding of loan compliance
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Working knowledge of financial accounting and financial statements
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment withstanding unpredictable changes to schedules and deadlines
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of lenders, managers, directors and/or regulatory officials
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word and Excel

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Standing, walking, bending and stooping required
  • Must be able to sit at a desk for long periods of time and use a computer
  • Must be able to occasionally move or lift up to 10 pounds
  • May be asked to work supplemental hours periodically
  • Limited travel required occasionally during and after business hours
