Woodard & Curran has an exciting opportunity supporting the continuous expansion of our Strategic Funding Services with a focus on the California market. Woodard & Curran's Strategic Funding Services Team is comprised of dedicated funding and financial experts focused on strategizing with our Clients, Client Teams, and various state and federal funding agencies to maximize all available financial resources for our Clients. We are seeking a Funding Specialist to lead multi-disciplinary teams to successfully identify and secure state and federal funding for infrastructure, community development, and economic development projects that support our engineering practices. This position is the catalyst for implementation of critical water projects. Not only will you contribute to the growth of Woodard & Curran's practices, more importantly, you will enable crucial water projects to be built, creating meaningful impact in our changing climate and economy.
You will work collaboratively with municipal and other strategic client managers to identify funding opportunities and develop client specific financial plans to leverage grant and loan applications to secure funding for projects involving water supply/treatment, wastewater systems, stormwater systems, community development, economic development, brownfields, hazard mitigation, etc. This position offers an opportunity to play a significant role in the project finance/funding process for an exciting division of our organization that delivers projects to public and private clients nationwide! Over the past five years, our Strategic Funding Services Team has secured $1.5B in grant and loan money for our Clients to plan, design, and construct critical water & environment projects.
What You Will Do at Woodard & Curran:
· Under general direction, identify economic development loan and grant-eligible projects with regional, state, and federal resources and develop, review, and edit loan and grant applications.
· Guide potential funding opportunities from conception through the application process and, if awarded, through implementation and administration.
· Interact with stakeholders involved in loan and grant-funding activities.
· Maintain comprehensive knowledge of particular areas involved in identifying and soliciting grants.
· Provide direct client guidance and input on various potential projects and funding applications.
· Prepare capital, operational, and other strategic plans, amendments and revisions for municipal clients.
What You Bring to the Team:
· This role is geared towards someone with a minimum of ten to fifteen (10-15) years of experience with a bachelor's degree in Planning, Economics, Public Policy, Engineering, Public or Business Administration, or related or relevant fields.
· Technical excellence mindset with strong verbal and written communication skills. Experience writing funding applications and strong QA/QC ethic.
· Ability to thrive in a collaborative team setting, where the team supports each other in managing multiple deadlines.
· Willingness to take full ownership of funding programs, team and outcomes.
· Passionate about California water and advocating for clients and project outcomes.
· Demonstrated understanding of the grant application writing process, including data gathering and research.
· Active relationships with funding agencies – knowing who to call for what and when.
o Demonstrated knowledge of CDBG, US EDA, USDA, and related Federal & State funding programs.
o Advanced knowledge of community development, economic development, and municipal capital project planning.
· Desire for growth and expanding W&C funding services throughout the California marketplace, including adding resources to the team.
· Experience with the laws, rules, and regulations regarding public procurement practices and other environmental and federal, state, and local regulations.
