Automotive and Heavy Equipment Mechanic (Maintenance)



This position is responsible for diagnosing and repairing a wide range of vehicles and equipment in a fleet maintenance shop setting, with an emphasis on heavy equipment diagnostics and repair.

Duties:

  • Performs preventative maintenance, repairs and mechanically reconditions all types of University vehicles and heavy equipment, including diesel equipment
  • Inspects, adjusts, repairs or replaces worn vehicle parts as needed
  • Diagnoses/repairs electrical, electronic and fuel delivery systems, and/or components as needed
  • Records and maintains necessary information from work orders or service records to include but not limited to equipment repairs, used parts, estimates, and labor time
  • Makes service calls for repairs to equipment at the work site
  • May assist in the training of other employees in the correct maintenance of their respective equipment
  • Subject to on-call service on a rotating basis
  • Performs related duties as needed to successfully fulfill the functions of the position

Required Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED. AND:

  • 18 months experience in heavy equipment repair.

Skills:

  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Basic math and computer skills.
  • Maintains state-of-the-art knowledge by attending special courses, workshops or seminars

Certifications:

  • Valid Oklahoma Driver's License in order to drive University vehicles or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire date.
  • Willingness to obtain commercial drivers license upon employment.

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Physical:
    • Regularly stands, lifts, bends, stoops, lifts above shoulders and carries 30 lbs. or more.  
    • Exposure to heavy lifting up to 100 lbs. 
  • Environmental:
    • Regular exposure to disagreeable conditions, extreme temperature changes and odors and loud noises.  
    • Wears and maintains personal protective equipment.

Departmental Preferences:

  • Oklahoma Alternative Fuels Technician Certification preferred.
  • ASE Certification preferred.
