Regional Human Resource Director- Operations (Human Resources)

The Position 

We are seeking a seasoned HR professional who can provide strategic direction and has deep knowledge and expertise with the ability to listen, learn and cultivate strong relationships to deliver value to the business. Successful candidates will be willing to roll up their sleeves and provide tactical HR support as needed to do what it takes to support fluctuating demands in a competitive business environment.

The Regional Director of Human Resources is responsible for providing business leadership and functional expertise in human resources to the divisions manufacturing plants located in Florida, Oregon, and Washington. Position will be based in Pensacola, Florida manufacturing site.

The HR Leader will be an effective change agent who works to positively engage the workforce at all levels within the facilities and is a key position on the plant leadership team. The role will be responsible for managing and delivering HR strategies and tactics through direct efforts in employee relations and communications, organizational and management development, talent management and safety awareness and compliance.

This position reports the VP, Human Resources for the operating division, and is a key member of the HR leadership team.

Responsibilities

Safety

  • Lead and support safety initiatives and processes to drive towards zero recordable injuries.
  • Effectively communicate safety strategy and performance to employees and engage them in the systems and process leadership.
  • Creates a safety-first culture and continuously works on providing the proper tools for success.

Leadership

  • Leads, coaches, and teaches leaders to create an environment where talent is developed through effective performance management and talent evaluation systems.
  • Invests in the growth and development of direct reports, operations leadership teams and in self.
  • Develops and directs a cost-effective proactive, motivated, and professional Human Resource staff that provides exceptional customer service to the company and has senior management support.
  • Maintains compliance with relevant regulations and requirements pertaining to the management of HR to minimize risk and exposure to the company.
  • Fosters a workplace environment consistent with the Purpose and Values outlined by the leadership of company.

Executing HR Strategies

  • Will partner with the VPHR to translate the strategic and tactical business plans into HR strategic and operational plans.
  • Contributes to the development and execution of the plant and Human Resources strategy
  • Improve plant organizational results by measuring and assessing performance, diagnosing problems and implementing highly effective solutions.
  • Lead efforts to develop local programs and initiatives that are suited for the local plant populations
  • Leverage understanding of turnover data and stay interviews to develop a plant-specific retention strategy that limits turnover and enables succession and development
  • Play a lead role in supporting business talent reviews as well as reviews of plant talent
  • Develop a reputation and operate as a trusted advisor and business partner to the Plant Leadership and contribute on plant strategy discussions outside of the HR area.
  • Coaches all leaders in the organization with confidence and candor.

Talent Development

  • Leads Training & Development activities within the region.
  • Provides an effective and credible recruitment function for all job levels with emphasis on building and retaining a highly qualified, diverse work force with a strong work ethic and personal accountability.
  • Continuously improve assessment, selection, development and retention of best talent.
  • Fills openings with highly competent people using the appropriate mix of internal promotions and external recruitment to satisfy near-term performance, longer-term succession needs and to ensure the organization has the necessary outstanding talent.
  • Participate and lead succession planning programs for key contributor and management positions within region.

Employee Relations

  • Mitigate legal risk to the organization through proactive training and education, clear systems and processes for managing conflicts with and between employees, handling and investigating complaints of harassment/discrimination and other unjust practice allegations.
  • Develop and implement effective employee relations plans, including communications, resulting in an issue free work environment, improving employee morale and productivity.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Respond to employee concerns and complaints that violate Company policies by supporting the investigative team in conducting timely internal investigations independently or in conjunction with plant leadership and HR Business Partners. Prepare written documentation of investigative findings and report out to stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management or a related field required.
  • PHR/SPHR preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years HR business partner experience, preferably at least 3 years at the Director level and leading a team of HR professionals, preferably for multiple manufacturing plants.
  • Manufacturing or Distribution human resources experience required.
  • Proven expertise in Recruiting and Employee Relations.
  • A strong sense of overall business operations enabling good judgment and participation in senior executive decision-making activity.  

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Business acumen: Demonstrates understanding of the financials and metrics of the business.
  • Ability to work successfully under pressure and handle multiple highly sensitive issues and competing priorities.
  • Able to establish and maintain excellent relationships and credibility quickly. 
  • Provide courageous people perspective on business issues, even when unpopular.
  • Current knowledge of best practice human resources processes and tools
  • Excellent communication – written and oral – including presentation skills
  • Capable of taking on additional regional HR responsibility for other locations/operations as needed.
  • Unquestionable integrity, credibility, and character with demonstrated high moral and ethical behavior.
  • Ability to travel up to 30-40%
