Project Engineer II (Engineering)



SUMMARY:  The Project Engineer II will be responsible for managing the design of solar, energy storage and generator projects to ensure that prescribed activities are documented in accordance with Baker Home Energy's specified objectives for the successful permitting, procurement, and completion of the project.

They will be responsible for ensuring drawings and designs are completed on time and adhere to the established specifications and standards. Responsible for solar project engineering, design permitting, procurement and interconnection, in addition to coordinating project implementation with existing operations and project management department. The packages will consist of electrical, structural and layout design work that follows building and electrical codes as well as jurisdictional requirements for permitting.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Proficient technical knowledge in all stages of project design including conceptual and advanced system design observing regulatory codes as well as customer requirements, balance of systems, permitting and technical support during construction phase
  • Responsible for all stages of project design including conceptual and advanced system design observing regulatory codes requirements
  • Preform minor corrections or create wiring diagrams in AutoCAD.
  • Intermediate analyzation and simulate PV project energy production; Perform energy generation modeling for solar and energy storage projects using computer aided tools and software.
  • Collaborate with other Engineers and Engineering Manager, assist in maintaining design and proposal requirements, apply knowledge of codes and standards, design procedures, methods, and process, improve efficiency of project development
  • Intermediate understanding of NEC and CFC codes applicable portions and apply them to project engineering.
  • Perform advanced electrical calculations to size equipment, cables, conduits, etc.
  • Perform Intermediate Site-specific production analysis of PV arrays using existing industry models
  • Lead site visits to determine electrical interconnection plans, design constraints and project scope
  • Assist with day-to-day operations and/or other duties as assigned
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY REPSONSIBILITIES:

  • None

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

  • 2+ years of experience in solar, energy storage or electrical relevant solar industry design experience required
  • 2+ years of experience designing and planning solar projects preferred
  • 2+ years of AutoCAD experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in related fields (Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Renewable Energy, Environmental Engineering, etc.) and/or 2-3 years of residential field construction / electrical experience or completion of Electrical trade program
  • Electrical Field Experience a plus
  • Proficiency with Solar/PV application (Aurora, Loveland Imaging) design software is a plus
  • Permitting Experience or use of Solar App is a plus

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong understanding of solar, energy storage, and generator system design, including permitting and interconnection processes.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD for creating and modifying wiring diagrams and layout designs.
  • Working knowledge of NEC, CFC, and local building/electrical codes applicable to residential solar projects.
  • Ability to perform energy modeling and production analysis using industry tools (e.g., Aurora, Loveland Imaging).
  • Capable of conducting advanced electrical calculations for sizing equipment, cables, and conduits.
  • Intermediate understanding of electrical and structural design components and solar equipment.
  • Experience creating and updating installation bills of material.
  • Effective project and task management skills with the ability to prioritize competing deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for internal coordination and client interactions.
  • Skilled in collaborating across engineering, operations, and project management teams.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook for project documentation and communication.
  • Ability to lead site visits to assess interconnection plans, design constraints, and project scope.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:  

  • Intermediate knowledge of electrical, structural design components and solar equipment manufacturers
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook
  • Effective task management and project management
  • Proficient with NEC and local code
  • Intermediate knowledge of power systems

  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Professional internal and external client relations
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize and complete a variety of simultaneous tasks required

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Onsite

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Office: Standard office environment. Individual will frequently be required to stand, walk, sit, talk, and hear. Occasionally may have to lift boxes full of materials for purposes of setup of programs, typically 25 pounds or less.
