Our Direct Care Staff make a big contribution to our daily efforts and are extremely hands on. Direct Care Staff will provide nurturing and structure to a child in need. You will be responsible for attending weekly staff meetings, trainings, workshops, and in-service trainings in order to enhance your expertise! One of the most important and rewarding parts of your career with us will be developing a therapeutic relationship with clients through one-on-one interaction. This position is Full-Time, Graveyard- between the hours of 10pm-8am. Days can include weekends and Holidays. Essential Job Functions: 1. Physical capability to restrain children, lift over 20 pounds, and engage in physical activity including various sports, sitting, walking, bending, climbing, kneeling, twisting, reaching, etc. 2. Develop effective and meaningful relationships with children. 3. Learn and apply techniques of childcare and treatment. 4. Work effectively and cooperatively with staff and administration. 5. Use personal skills and interests to facilitate group and individual programs. 6. Know and understand needs of children and/or disturbed children and group interaction of children. 7. Be open and flexible to change. 8. Patience, tact, consistency, self-awareness, directness, and warmth are other essential job functions necessary for an effective Direct Care Staff. 9. Effectively use Therapeutic Crisis Intervention techniques for crisis prevention and/or crisis intervention. 10. Properly administer medication for the therapeutic treatment of clients. 11. Effectively use de-escalation skills and techniques for crisis prevention. Responsibilities: 1. Set limits and appropriate consequences for the child and/or group. 2. Facilitate individual and group controls. 3. Be familiar with philosophy, methodology, and procedures of the treatment program and treatment-oriented functions as directed by senior or clinical staff if applicable. 4. Carry out individualized plans and work toward objectives agreed upon by clinical staff and/or placement worker where applicable. 5. Assist in resolving group and/or individual conflicts. 6. Assist in school and/or learning programs. 7. Safeguard the dignity of each child and protect the rights and the individuality of each child so as to enhance his/her self-respect. 8. Attend all in-service training programs, regular staff meetings and scheduled treatment team meetings. 9. Utilize recreation as the therapeutic aid. 10. Observe behavior, interactions, and individual needs of each child and report these to appropriate staff through written records. 11. Be familiar with and utilize properly agency forms, ledgers, and logs in accordance with governing procedures. 12. Transport children in agency transportation to arranged outings. 13. Provide daily supervision of each child's current health needs and record daily health status of each child. 14. Follow all state and other applicable laws, rules, and regulations. 15. Report any suspected child abuse immediately to direct supervisor or if not available up the chain of command. 16. Report any suspected dependent adult/elder abuse immediately to direct supervisor or if not available up the chain of command. 17. Everyone who works in the organization has responsibilities for preventing and controlling infection. 18. Participate in primary crisis prevention and/or crisis intervention. The agency requires 40 hours of formal training.
