Managing Director - Alternative Proteins (Creative Design)



Summary:  The mandate of the Managing Director of Alternative Proteins is to create and scale impact in service of Griffith Foods' Purpose and 2030 Aspirations by developing and building Alternative Proteins into a significant business for Griffith Foods.

  • Goal: To establish Griffith Foods as a global leader in product development for alternative proteins, and as a ‘best in class' provider of taste, texture and nutrition solutions for a wide range of alternative proteins derived from multiple sources.
  • Objectives and Success Metrics:
1. Market Leadership:
    • Perceived by customers and the industry as Leader (top 3) in product development (taste & texture) in Alternative Proteins
    • Leaders (#1) in APPLIED consumer insights, culinary and sensory in alternative proteins
    • Alternative protein product development partner of choice for start-ups/new ventures & technology companies in alternative proteins market
    2. Financial Success:
      • Achieve Aspirational Impact Metric of 10% of sales will be in alternative proteins, with enhanced contribution margins versus the core business

       

      Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

       

      The Managing Director is responsible for ensuring the following is accomplished within the Alternative Proteins Business Team:

       

      1.  Lead the development and execution of the business plan for Alternative Proteins, including the strategic, analytical and tactical aspects of the business. More specifically, the plan shall include
      • Strategic marketing plan that defines Griffith Foods' value proposition in alternative proteins, Where-to-Play, How-to-Win, and Operational Effectiveness strategies and plans 
      • Financial plan that leads to Griffith Foods achieving its Aspirational Goal that Alternative Proteins will be 10% of net sales globally and at contribution margins that are accretive to the core business
      2.  Build the Alternative Proteins global team and acquire new capabilities for Griffith Foods, with the goal being to establish product leadership in alternative proteins. The Alternative Proteins team is inclusive of a global and regional organizational structure. It is important that the Managing Director is effective in managing within a matrix organization, which means working closely with regional leadership and understanding cultural differences. The global team shall include roles in Marketing, R&D and Business Development with shared services support from Finance and Human Resources, and there will be corresponding regional Alternative Protein roles in Marketing, R&D and Business Development.
       

      3. With the Global Team, the Managing Director will lead the development of Breakthrough Innovation in Alternative Proteins and enable Customer Innovation. This includes leveraging Insights, Food Science, Culinary, Nutrition and Regulatory at the Global level that will support innovation strategies, plans and processes.
       

      4. Lead global orchestration of business plans, development of the necessary capabilities to enable product leadership in alternative proteins and delivery of business performance.
       
      5. Ensure Global Customer Development in Alternative Proteins, working in collaboration with Regional Business Teams
       

      6. Build Griffith Foods brand and reputation in the alternative protein marketplace, including leadership Insights, Food Science, Culinary, Sensory and Nutrition as it applies to alternative protein

       

      Qualifications:


      • Graduate degree in Business, Finance or other relevant area required.
      • Minimum of 10 years cumulative work experience in the food industry.
      • 5 years plus demonstrated experience in the protein sector, with experience in alternative proteins.
      • Demonstrated ability to lead, influence, and communicate effectively in diverse, cross-functional teams, with a specific orientation to leading commercial teams.
      • Experience and acumen working within a matrix organization.
      • Experience building strategic plans.
      • A strong history of collaborating with customers, and demonstrated ability to build excellent, long-term customer relationships and development of account plans.
      • Strong data, analytics, technology experience and understanding.
      • Financial modeling and superior analytical skills.
      • 40-50% travel required.
