Material Specialist (Construction)



Position Title: Material Specialist (S4)

Role 

The Material Specialist position is responsible for developing and managing the optimal material supply strategy for business units within the area. This includes all aspects of the material system including vendors, supply forecast/BOM, transportation management, adherence to Competitive Bid policy, pricing, IMN/OEM identification, returns assistance and onboarding new suppliers, Plan for every part, material flow planning, review of warehouse KPIs, material availability mechanisms and collaboration with Strategic Sourcing are included. The primary objective for this position is to ensure 100% material availability at best total cost to serve meeting project timelines. Secondary objectives include escalation of past due invoices, material receiving compliance, and shrinkage mitigation.

 

Responsibilities 

  • Coordinate with stakeholders on BOM viability, options to meet project cost and delivery needs.
  • Implements enhancements to drive cost and productivity in supply chain I.e., consignment sales, IMN review/rationalization.
  • Works with Project Teams securing Fiber Forecasts and facilitates two-way communications with Strategic Sourcing to Projects for fulfillment.
  • Identifies opportunities to re-allocate items across regions and works as a SME for this.  
  • Promotes and reports on proper use of ERP systems, MPAs, Use Before Buy and compliant material procurement practices.
  • Works with Strategic Sourcing Materials who creates the plans to source forecasted volumes to ensure 100% material availability. 
  • Ensures best practices for receiving at GC locations are known, communicated and actioned.
  • Reviews Past Due Invoice reports for materials and escalates as needed.
  • Monitors delivery and storage of material to all entities within the supply chain.
  • Manages inventory and product loss control, coordinates, reports and coaches' teams on cadence of shipping, receiving, returns and/or final disposition of materials.
  • Ensures prompt notice of recalls and understanding of warranty guidelines are met by all in supply chain.
  • Works with users to maintain inventory reporting and issuance the extended supply chain.
  • Implement and enforce Crown Castle or Customer standard work processes for supply chain.
  • Oversight of all parties in the Supply Chain by review of data to resolve/escalate issues.
  • Drive continuous improvement activities internally and externally with supply chain partners.
  • Manages two-way communication for process improvements and feedback to stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership selecting, developing, evaluating, and managing vendors for efficient operation of the supply chain.
  • Manage suppliers and service providers that support receiving, warehousing and shipping operations.

  • Ability to meet project deadlines and manage resources accordingly

  • Able to manage 10-20% travel requirement

 

Education/Certifications   

  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Experience

 

Experience/Minimum Requirements   

  • Three (3) years of experience in materials management or similar responsibilities.

Working Conditions: This role falls into our hybrid work model working in your assigned office approximately 60% of the time (3 days per week) and where you do your best work 40% (2 days per week).  There is an expectation of collaboration with teammates and stakeholders for moments that matter that could require travel.
