Analytics Engineer Manager (Architecture)

Summary/objective

The primary purpose of this position is to provide relationship management, strategy, and analytic services for HORNE REDi Health clients.  In this position, you will participate in healthcare analytics and fulfill our mission to deliver our services with care and be the most loved professional services firm. This position places the participant on a path to combine analytics skills and a sound understanding of healthcare to inform a fundamental transformation of healthcare delivery as we know it today. The successful candidate will assist health systems in becoming data-driven within their organization. This individual must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, performing tasks quickly without compromising attention to detail. REDi is seeking individuals with a proven track record of self-discipline, learning and career development.  The Analytics Engineer Manager (AEM) is a working manager who is ultimately responsible for REDi Health client's analytic success.  The AEM provides analytic continuity at the client through all phases of deployment and acts in the long-term best interest of the client.  The AEM manages client expectations, designs solutions to meet institutions where they are, and implements timelines for analytic deliverables. The development of analytic solutions requires the involvement of the client and REDi Health to create solutions relevant to the organization's success.  The AEM facilitates the analytic development process and can navigate difficult client conversations with professionalism. The AEM successfully leads a team of Analytics Engineers to deliver all analytic aspects of the customer's engagement. The AEM creates strategic and tactical planning around deployment, communication on the status of analytic deployment to client senior leadership, and knowledge transfer and training on implemented solutions.  The AEM may support presentations to client executive leadership as the AEM role is highly visible and influential.  The AEM is focused on anticipating customer opportunity through the use of data.

  • Strategy development and execution –Develop execution path to best leverage resources to deliver projects on time. Actively participate in project planning, coordinating, training and communicating with the client. Serve as the client's main point of contact and lead on all analytic activity, including assignment of tasks and projects to the respective clients. Active participation in the work (e.g., involved in day-to-day software and application installations, SQL development and database design and architecture).
  • Risk assessment and mitigation – Partner with Sr. Manager to proactively identify roadblocks interfering with project deliverables and provide viable solutions to keep project on track. Troubleshoot issues and communicate risks. Diplomatically address concerns and establish and promote a transparent environment for problem resolution.  Help develop strategy to address client needs.
  • Project status communication – Clearly articulate to executive sponsorship teams' status of project and provide insight to any additional support needed for a viable success of the implementation. Actively participate in relevant internal meetings, providing feedback on processes and strategic operations issues. Provide feedback on clients to REDi leadership. 
  • Knowledge transfer and training – Lead, provide or oversee training of client staff with applications and methodologies in support of process improvement.  Ensure knowledge transfer to client around analytic deployment positions client for long-term success with applications.
  • Managing tasks and people – Ensure team members have the appropriate resources, education, skills and tools to be successful with assigned tasks. Maintain workload balance among analytic team members and knowledge providers, and facilitate pragmatic innovation. Fulfill people-leadership responsibilities, including conducting effective regular one-on-ones with direct reports, mentoring new team members and grooming future Analytics Manager(s).
  • Persistence to understanding topography of Rural Healthcare – Stay connected with the evolving horizon of rural healthcare.  Train people and create services to fill rural facility needs. Maintain a tenacious approach to listening and learning about rural healthcare.  Identify and gain expertise that can be scaled across REDi pro services within HORNE.

Required education and experience

  • Must possess deep technical experience with five core technical competencies: data query (SQL), data movement (ETL), data analysis, data modeling and data visualizations.
  • Ability to mine client data, identify and quantify opportunities for improvement (clinical, financial and/or operational) and effectively communicate the analysis to non-technical client leadership.
  • Must have strong understanding of data warehousing and analytic principles and possess the ability to explain data warehousing concepts to analytic and non-analytic people.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills; ability to anticipate, diffuse and/or manage conflict resolution.  Ability to lead and support analytic resources through tenuous situations.
  • Ability to mentor/train/educate others, including technical (analysts and data architects) and others who are non-technical (e.g., clinicians, physicians, executives).
  • Advanced interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively guide and facilitate meetings.
  • Must possess advanced presentation skills and be comfortable presenting to all levels of client engagement (analytic staff, clinical staff, managers, directors and executive teams).  Ability to present key concepts to small and large audiences effectively.  Ability to communicate in a group setting, concisely at a detail level when needed.
  • Ability to adapt quickly and change direction as needed to address client needs.
  • Ability to independently learn new software tools quickly and ask for help or training when necessary.
  • Advanced decision-making skills.  Can assimilate complex information to understand core issues, develop proposed solutions that align with REDi methodologies and support long-term interests of the client.
  • Ability to collaborate with Sr. Manager and client to prioritize the project management deliverables and understand risk and/or impact.
  • Experience supporting/leading quality improvement efforts with data from a data warehouse.
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in related field such as statistics, healthcare, information system related degrees. Alternatively, any bachelor's degree with 3 years of equivalent work experience designing and delivering analytic solutions.
  • Combination of 5+ years' work experience in data warehousing technologies leveraging the following skills: data query (SQL), data movement (ETL), data analysis, data modeling and data visualizations.
  • Experience in change management and operationalizing analytic concepts

Preferred education and experience

  • Preferred - Graduate degree in related field (e.g., MIS, MBA with focus on IS, Master of Healthcare Administration, MSTAT, MS Informatics).
  • 2 – 4 years' healthcare experience on the provider side (where clinical care is delivered) – highly preferred.
  • 1 -2 years' experience working with Analytic (hardware, system administrator, networking, etc.) teams.
  • Prior experience in a travel-intense role preferred.
  • Prior experience managing people and teams.
  • 1+ year project management experience preferred.
  • 1+ year experience effectively communicating to executive level highly preferred.
