This position supports or directly impacts the overall performance metrics for new launch products and Process. The Project Engineer establishes and directs manufacturing cost and investment estimations, practices, processes, facilities, tools and equipment for production to achieve safety, quality, and productivity, environmental and financial objectives.
Job Responsibilities:
• Establishes project objectives by analyzing proposals and collaborating with management.
• Possesses a high level of technical aptitude to provide technical project insight, advice and support.
• Ability to take on a wide variety of job functions within a project including hands-on technical support.
• Prepares progress reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
• Accountable for delivering assigned project objectives, troubleshooting process issues and implementing corrective actions.
• Methodically analyze machining and assembly processes and drive cost and investment estimations, stablish and ensure consistent and efficient flow to optimize manpower to meet quality targets in a high volume production environment.
• Evaluate and conceptualize estimations for future process or changes of current process to improve tooling, work holding, throughput and ergonomic opportunities to support production in this fast-paced setting.
• Serves as primary liaison with cross-function Product Development Teams providing Design for Manufacturing (DFM) input for new products and acting as the primary interface and transition of new product to a full production environment.
• Work with the product development teams and management to provide input for make vs. buy decisions.
• Design and implement efficient processes using lean manufacturing principles, to enable single piece flow in a pull system philosophy for existing products or new product launches as appropriate.
• Justify and purchase capital equipment/tooling to improve or implement manufacturing processes.
• Establish and document production standards and controls, conduct initial time studies and establish labor standards for new and existing products and process as necessary.
• Generate initial work instructions, process control procedures and operating procedures utilizing visual factory methods in the creation of the work environment.
• Complete PFMEA analysis in a cross functional environment.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
• Establish facility layout that is consistent with kanban, efficient material flow and pull system techniques.
• Be a contributing member of a continuous improvement and employee-involved culture.
• Bachelors of Science, 4-year degree in Mechanical Engineering is required or equivalent years' experience.
• PMP certification is preferred but not required.
• 3-5+ years' experience in manufacturing engineering is required.
• Knowledge of CNC machining and assembly with complex automation, PLC background will be a plus. Special machines, simple to complex tooling systems, hydraulics, pneumatics and robotics preferred.
• Industry working knowledge in automotive drivetrain components is a benefit.
• Strong technical knowledge base of metal based processes (forging, assembly, fastening, machining, heat-treating, etc.) is a benefit.
• Demonstrated communication skills in English are required.
• Hands-on experience in the launch of a new product and/or manufacturing process is a benefit.
• Experience using Concept to Customer methodology or equivalent APQP or Project Management Life Cycle process is a benefit.
• Availability to travel 20%-30%, mostly locally in the Carolinas
