Highlands Oncology began in 1996 with three physicians and a desire to change the face of oncology care in our community. Dr. Malcolm Hayward, Dr. Dan Bradford, and Dr. Thad Beck knew that patients do better at home, in the community where they live and work, and where their support system is already in place. In furthering that goal, Highlands has grown with the region from a single location 26 years ago, to 6 locations in Northwest and Northcentral Arkansas today employing more than 850 diverse team members.

Job Summary: The Phlebotomy Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the phlebotomy department, ensuring high standards of patient care, safety, and compliance. This role involves supervising a team of phlebotomists, coordinating schedules, maintaining quality control, and collaborating with clinical and administrative staff to support oncology services.
The Phlebotomy Supervisor will play a critical role in maintaining efficient blood collection processes for oncology patients, many of whom require specialized care and sensitivity. The position requires strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering compassionate and efficient service within a fast-paced clinical environment.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise and support the phlebotomy team, including training, scheduling, and performance evaluations.Ensure accurate and timely blood collection, labeling, and processing in accordance with regulatory and clinical standards.Maintain inventory and ensure proper use of phlebotomy equipment and supplies.Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and lab personnel to ensure seamless patient care.Monitor compliance with infection control, safety protocols, and quality assurance guidelines.Handle patient concerns with professionalism and empathy, especially those receiving oncology treatments.Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and patient satisfaction.Oversee staff performance and adherence to company policies, including initiating and documenting disciplinary actions, when necessary, in accordance with organizational protocols and HR guidelines.

Job Duties / Responsibilities includes those listed above as well as normal duties applicable to all Phlebotomists:
Responsible for oversight of phlebotomists with focus on safe patient care and satisfaction at assigned clinic.Coordinate workflow to ensure timely collections of specimens.Serve as a technical expert for all collection procedures and assist with difficult draws.Provide leadership in troubleshooting computer system problems and implementing downtime procedures.Oversee proper collection of research kits and other special procedures.Review select policies as required (i.e., annual review). Recommend policy changes and assist with communication of policy changes to testing staff.Participate in all relevant quality assurance activities.Weekly inventory counts all supplies and handle ordering of supplies specific to clinic.Cooperate with other departments in a team approach to achieve objectives and goals.Performs routine phlebotomy while providing safe patient care.Know how to operate Onco and Labdaq.Ensure that equipment and facilities are in proper condition for use in delivering health care.Maintains good personal relations and communication among staff.Inventories lab supplies and restocks, cleans equipment and work area according to policy.Dispose of contaminated materials in appropriate containers (Sharps, Biohazard, etc.)Attends meetings and participates in a positive manner.Maintains patients confidentiality.Performs related work as required.Follows OSHA and HIPPA requirements.Train at multiple locations AccessioningParticipate in continuing education.Promote teamwork and participation in process improvement teams as assigned.Report all employee and patient accidents to the supervisor for documentation.Assist in eliminating waste and improving supply storage.Assist in putting in outside orders.Train new hire employees according to Highlands Oncologys policies and procedures.Close phlebotomy at the end of the workday and ensure all end of day duties are completed.Oversee entering outside orders.
