Position Summary:
The Academic Advisor I position is a key professional role within the Office of Student Success who will be working and interacting with a broad base of individuals, including but not limited to faculty, administrative, staff and students both internally and externally. The Academic Advisor I will foster students intellectual and personal development toward academic success, advising students from admission to graduation, and coordinates student programs to enhance the educational experience and promote student success. The Academic Advisor in this position must also develop an in depth knowledge of the campus, especially resources and academic policies and procedures, provide accurate information and to make appropriate referrals.Minimum Qualifications: This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling or academic field directly related to the Advisor's specific responsibilities with a minimum of one year of experience in advising or related academic functions within higher education. Work experience may not be substituted for the Bachelor's degree requirement for this position.

Works with students to develop educational plans and supports students with course selection and registration. Monitors registration and progression statuses and communicates with students in violation of progression policies. Manages problems related to students, families, advisors, and faculty, including concerns, exceptions to policy, conflict resolution, and referrals. Serves as liaison between students and faculty. Conducts regular, proactive outreach to students regarding registration, withdrawal, academic jeopardy, progression concerns, etc. Connects students to campus resources and makes referrals to support student success. Utilizes a variety of systems including but not limited to DegreeWorks, Banner, Archivum (case management), etc. to access student records and deliver advising information. Maintains accurate student records and advising notes. Ensures adherence to all university and college policies, student privacy/confidentiality and FERPA law. Participates in professional associations that support academic advising.
Coordinates student success programs. Serves as a coordinator for academic advising sessions at university new student orientations. Collaborates with faculty and campus offices to provide workshops for students on important success initiatives (i.e. admissions interview workshops, career development programs, etc.).
Uses Banner system to update student records, manage holds, and issue permits for course registration. Prepares registration and progression reports. Maintains enrollment records and actively tracks and monitors student registration and progression. Sends outreach to the students regarding registration and progression. Compiles statistical data, including retention rates, advising numbers, and other requests as needed.
Collaborates with the College of Nursing to represent the college at recruitment events and participate in strategic outreach initiatives. Ensures program information on website and printed materials is current and up-to-date. Supports the onboarding of new admitted students by updating the onboarding requirements, coordinating, and presenting at orientation. Assists with college-wide activities and events (i.e. new student orientations, graduation ceremonies, Career Fairs, commencement, Week of Welcome, etc.) that support the mission of the Office of Student Success.
Ensures students are on track for meeting graduation requirements and enrolled in degree-applicable courses. Review and process substitutions, in conjunction with the Director of Student Affairs and Advising, the Associate Director of Advising, and program faculty. Assists students in violation of the College of Nursing Progression policy.
