Benefits Specialist, North America (Finance)



Come join Verisk's corporate Benefits team! Serve as the Lead Specialist for North America retirement programs (including U.S. 401(k), ESPP, financial wellness, RRSP, and retiree medical), and Canada's health and welfare plans (medical, dental, vision, life, disability, wellbeing, and voluntary programs). Ensure compliance with regulations, support accurate payroll and vendor processes, and play a key role in enrollment. Provide guidance to employees and HR partners, collaborate with vendors and internal teams to resolve issues, and drive continuous improvement of benefits processes, and communications to enhance the employee experience.
The role can be based in our Jersey City, NJ office or our Boston, MA office, offering a hybrid work environment with in-office work 2-3 days/week.

Core Responsibilities

Serve as the Lead Specialist for North America retirement programs (including U.S. 401(k), ESPP, financial wellness, RRSP, and retiree medical), and Canada's health and welfare plans (medical, dental, vision, life, disability, wellbeing, and voluntary programs).

Ensure compliance with regulations, support accurate payroll and vendor processes, and play a key role in enrollment.

Provide guidance to employees and HR partners, collaborate with vendors and internal teams to resolve issues, and drive continuous improvement of benefits processes, and communications to enhance the employee experience.

Retirement and Canada Benefits Administration

  • Administer North American retirement plans: 401(k), RRSP, ESPP, retiree medical, and financial wellness.
  • Manage Canadian health and welfare benefit offerings: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, wellbeing, and statutory/voluntary benefits.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll deductions and resolve related data discrepancies.
  • Oversee invoice processing and reconciliation against enrollment data.
  • Maintain benefits data in HR systems; monitor and resolve carrier file feed issues in collaboration with HRIS and vendors.
  • Conduct benefits orientation for newly eligible employees and support benefit education initiatives.
  • Serve as secondary support for U.S. health and welfare and voluntary plans.

Strategic Program Support & Analysis
  • Analyze plan utilization, employee feedback, and industry benchmarks to inform benefit strategy.
  • Recommend enhancements aligned to business goals, cost-effectiveness, and employee experience.
  • Prepare benefits reporting and trend analysis for internal stakeholders.
  • Prepare benefits data, reports, and materials for retirement committee meetings and internal audits.
  • Support financial wellness communications and retirement planning tools on internal platforms.

Compliance, Governance & Regulatory Support
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. and Canadian regulations (e.g., ERISA, IRS, DOL, HIPAA, ACA, CPP, Pension Benefits Standards Act).
  • Monitor regulatory changes, coordinate plan amendments, and manage the distribution of required notices.
  • Support audits and government filings; conduct ongoing data audits to ensure accuracy and integrity.
  • Maintain and update benefits plan documentation and related materials.

Employee Support & Communication
  • Provide guidance to internal stakeholders; advise employees, managers, and HR partners on eligibility, plan provisions, and compliance.
  • Develop and deliver communication materials and retirement-focused financial wellness resources.
  • Respond to employee inquiries in a timely and professional manner; escalate complex issues as needed.
  • Lead or contribute to the delivery of new hire orientation, including in-person, digital, and on-demand formats.

Vendor & Stakeholder Relationship Management
  • Act as liaison to assigned vendors, managing service levels and performance discussions.
  • Contribute to vendor selection and RFP processes.
  • Partner with internal teams (HR, Payroll, HRIS, IS&T) to manage end-to-end administration.
  • Monitor file feeds and resolve data issues with vendors and HRIS
  • Oversee invoice reconciliation and approval processes.
  • Strengthen relationships with vendors and internal stakeholders to optimize program delivery.

Enrollment & Program Improvements
  • Support Open Enrollment processes, including:
    • Coordination of logistics, testing, and communication development.
    • Assisting employees with the election process and resolving escalations.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and vendors to optimize plan design, delivery, and the employee experience.
  • Stay current on benefit trends and provide analysis to support decision-making.

Other Contributions
  • Support charitable giving and service anniversary programs.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of internal communications and online benefits resources.
  • Enter benefits-related data in HR systems in line with internal standards.
  • Lead or contribute to special projects and ad hoc reporting as needed.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance, or a related field-or equivalent experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. and Canadian benefits regulations, including ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, ACA, IRS, CPP, and related provincial acts.
  • Experience with retirement plan administration, including 401(k), RRSPs, and financial wellness initiatives.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of vendor management, open enrollment, and plan implementation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and HR systems (e.g., Oracle, Workday, BusinessSolver).
  • Strong communication skills and experience developing employee education materials.
  • Ability to manage sensitive matters with discretion.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on process improvement and data accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently prioritize tasks and manage competing deadlines.

Required Experience
  • Minimum of 4-5 years of benefits administration experience, including:
    • U.S. and/or Canadian retirement plans, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, and other welfare programs.
  • Intermediate French language skills preferred.
