This position is focused on the process control and operations readiness of our pilot scale manufacturing facility in Burlington, MA and thereafter leadership and technology transfer to a scaled greenfield manufacturing facility. This position is integral to support operations, process, and system control and scale. This position requires a strong working knowledge of upstream and downstream manufacturing equipment, process and operation with strong investigational and root cause skills. Responsibilities will also include periodic review of manufacturing personnel compliance AS9100 / AS13100, and Environmental Health and Safety guidelines. Specific job-related tasks include:
Responsibilities
Develop additive manufacturing process parameters to enable manufacturing of complex geometries with custom materials required to industrialize aerospace components
Utilize, develop, and deploy novel sensing methods and data analysis to increase process stability and efficiency
Define, measure & control KPVs to ensure processes meet technical requirements
Perform process and equipment qualifications, while diagnosing out of control SPC events, and implementing corrective actions to equipment and/or process conditions
Coordinate and technically lead cross-functional project teams to achieve process capability and complete scrap reduction projects on time and in budget
Be the primary liaison with 3D printing equipment suppliers on technical matters including being the POC on joint development efforts
Independently plan, propose, conduct and manage projects for new processes with new or improved products
Work with engineering manager to set process capability targets
Work with cross functional engineering team to scope and execute in process development, control and scrap reduction projects
Work with cross-functional engineering teams to represent process engineering for the design and implementation of equipment modifications, assemblies, in-process measurements, automated processes, etc.
Work with product engineers to ensure design for manufacturability focused on efficiency, capability, and cost
Assist product engineering team in obtaining customer approvals, as required, to qualify as a source for production of specific products.
Support production personnel on training, troubleshooting processes, developing maintenance plans, operating instructions and other associated documentation for successful operation
Act independently to uncover and resolve issues as per the company's needs and requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
BSc with 7-10 years relevant experience, or MSc with 5-7 years relevant experience, in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
3+ years' experience in a controlled manufacturing environment (medical device, aerospace, other)
3+ years of experience which includes project management and execution of capital projects in an industrial environment
3+ years experience controlling processes via statistical process control, with expert level navigation of Minitab or JMP software's.
3+ years technical leadership with other engineers and demonstration of achievement of quantifiable process improvements
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
Hands on experience operating, maintaining, and optimizing additive manufacturing processes including software, CAD models, and other tools
Broad understanding of processes, systems and technical aspects of scaled manufacturing
Builder mentality that seeks to produce innovation, agility, and velocity to support business-as-usual operations and new project implementation.
