Western US Cultural Resources Operations Lead/Principal Archaeologist (Finance)

Role description:

Arcadis is seeking an experienced Principal Archaeologist to take on an operations leadership role within the cultural resources practice in the western United States. As part of this role, you will lead an established cultural resources team focused on supporting existing and new clients across the western U.S., with the opportunity to work with the wider National Cultural Resources team in developing strategies to grow in-house cultural resources work throughout the western U.S.

Role accountabilities:

As an Operations Lead/Principal Archaeologist, you will serve as a Principal Investigator (PI) for cultural resource investigations across a range of sectors and markets in the western U.S. You will provide senior and technical leadership for archaeological fieldwork for multiple projects and at all levels of investigation (Phases I-III) and oversee the preparation of technical analyses and documents. You will manage internal Arcadis cultural resources staff, manage subcontractors, and provide supervision, training, technical direction and mentoring to junior staff. This position could also require leading field assessments. A successful candidate would have a working knowledge of GPS systems and the ability to walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, as well as carry supplies weighing up to 40 pounds. This role could require the ability to travel up to 25%.

In this role, you will apply your technical/business knowledge to develop creative, effective, and economical solutions to address project issues. You will work with internal and external clients to provide cultural resource leadership and guidance. Additionally, you will interface with federal and state regulatory agencies, including the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), US Forest Service (USFS), and National Park Service (NPS), as well as tribes.

This position will require a candidate to work collaboratively with diverse project teams. Arcadis offers a flexible working environment and follows a hybrid work structure. A successful candidate can expect to work remotely and from the office, as needed, based on demands of project and client teams.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required qualifications for the role include:

  • Master's degree in archaeology or a related field.
  • Meets the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualifications Standards in archaeology.
  • At least 12 years of experience as a Principal Investigator in the western United States.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cultural resources management and Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA).
  • A minimum of 6 years experience working in cultural resources management and/or environmental consulting.
  • Experience working with federal land management agencies.
  • Experience working with both internal and external clients.
  • Experience managing archaeological

We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $116,000 - $174,000.

Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
