PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The candidate is a skilled financial professional who understands business, operations and financial processes; has the ability to integrate finance and operations and can collaborate with operational leadership in support of successfully managing the business. As a Controller with WV Paving and Shamblin Stone, you will work with multiple levels of management within the organization, directing all financial reporting, accounting practices and managing bank relationships. You will supervise employees in Accounting. This position reports directly to the SVP/GM of WV Paving.

POSITION REQUIRMENTS:

  • Establishes, or recommends to management, major corporate economic strategies, objectives, and policies for company;
  • Prepares reports to summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position;
  • Directs preparation of budgets, reviews budget and CAPEX proposals, and prepares necessary supporting documentation and justification;
  • Prepare reports required by regulatory agencies;
  • Enhance, implement and enforce SOX policies and procedures that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the corporation;
  • Fixed asset and CAPEX reporting;
  • Review balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis to confirm proper reconciliation and supporting backup;
  • Monitors and confirms financial condition by conducting audits; providing information to external auditors;
  • Provides audit assistance as needed or assigns personnel as appropriate;
  • Confirms financial status by monitoring revenue and expenses; coordinating the collection, consolidation, and evaluation of financial data;
  • Prepare property tax returns and reports required by regulatory agencies;
  • Supervise employees performing financial reporting, accounting, billing, collections, payroll, and budgeting duties;
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times;
  • Maintains Accounting staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees;
  • Strict adherence to policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Manual;
  • Strong project management skills including the ability to prioritize among multiple requirements and deadlines;
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors; and
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting with accounting certification or equivalent in experience/training in the similar fields;
  • CMA, CPA, or MBA preferred;
  • Experience in budgeting, financial forecasting, and financial statement preparation
  • Accounting, Financial analysis, ERP, Data Base User Interface and Query Software knowledge
  • Strong reasoning ability and applying mathematical operations to frequency distribution, analysis of variance & correlation
  • Individual must possess a working knowledge and understanding of accounting concepts, including P&L's and relevant balance sheet accounts. Must demonstrate strong numerical skills and the ability to analyze data and draw conclusions. Attention to detail and presentation of the work product, to a high standard, is required;
  • Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends;
  • Must possess superior problem solving skills; ability to identify and investigate potential problems with respect to accounting and internal control issues;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization and with staff at remote locations essential;
  • Strong problem solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses;
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation;
  • Experience in strategic planning and execution;
  • Experience in formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures;
  • Ability to develop financial plans and manage resources;
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret the most complex documents;
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data;
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations;
  • Ability to identify and secure funding/revenue sources;
  • Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to communicate and interact with officials at all levels;
  • Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule;
  • Willingness/Ability to travel;
  • Experience in a construction environment preferred;
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook;
  • Must be 18 years in age or older;
  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check;
  • Must possess a valid driver's license;
  • Able to safely drive a vehicle;
  • Regular required attendance and reporting ready to begin work at the designated start time;
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as per company policy.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee could work near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and exposed to wet, humid condition airborne particles, and extreme heat or cold.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually very quiet.
