Principal, The Cigna Group Ventures (Finance)



The Cigna Group Ventures is seeking to hire a Principal to join our strategic investment team. This person will support the team in a variety of capacities, including; deal sourcing, evaluating and executing investment opportunities, engaging portfolio companies, and fund administration. Additionally, the Principal will interact extensively with internal business leaders and subject matter experts across Cigna and Evernorth in order to validate strategic alignment and facilitate post-investment execution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and improve data-driven processes for managing our deal pipeline
  • Initial outreach, data gathering/assessment, and establishing relationships with founders
  • Develop investment insights and hypotheses by conducting market, product, customer, and financial research and analysis
  • Lead and support all aspects of the deal process from sourcing opportunities, completing rigorous due diligence, building financial models, negotiating deal terms, to engaging portfolio companies post-close
  • Organize information from target companies and internal/external experts
  • Conduct primary and secondary market research
  • Perform rigorous financial and valuation analysis
  • Develop strong relationships across Cigna and Evernorth to understand strategic priorities and initiatives
  • Conduct primary and secondary research, develop investment themes and market maps, prepare investment memorandums
  • Collaborate with portfolio company management and participate on boards

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred; Master's level degree or similar experience highly preferred
  • 7+ years professional experience, Venture capital, private equity investment or investment banking background is a plus
  • Proactive, self-directed leader with ability to successfully operate at multiple levels of management
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to quickly gather and synthesize information, draw appropriate conclusions, and make value-added recommendations
  • Understanding of clinical, operational, and financial drivers of healthcare industry and organizations
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, quantitative, and qualitative analysis skills, including financial modeling and valuation techniques

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 148,700 - 247,800 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.

This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus and long term incentive plan.
