Entry Level Java Applications Developer (Information Technology)



Summary: Provide engaged, hands-on technical contributions for the corporate IT enterprise application systems, inclusive of implementation, training / support, and ongoing operations. As a member of the application development team, this entry level individual contributor role will be responsible for developing and implementing solutions to insure a sustainable approach to complexity reduction and service delivery. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, pleasant to collaborate with, and constantly seeking to improve and expand their skills.

Major Responsibilities

  • Code, test, deploy, and document software applications
  • Self-document unit test plans
  • Participate in code reviews
  • Troubleshoot issues and participate in root cause analysis
  • Take ownership and be accountable for assigned work
  • Collaborate and interact effectively and respectfully within the team
  • Provides operational support of key applications inclusive of off-hour needs

Skills/Knowledge Required

  • Knowledge of programming and development concepts
  • Programming experience with Java EE
  • Basic understanding of object-oriented programming
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to deliver results in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong quantitative, analytical, troubleshooting, problem solving skills
  • Demonstrates a courteous and respectful attitude when communicating with others
  • Naturally inquisitive - demonstrates visible desire to engage and learn

Behavioral Competencies

  • Collaborate and interact effectively and harmoniously within the team
  • Demonstrate aptitude to learn modern technologies / frameworks

Desired Experience

  • 6 months – 1 year work experience in large ($1B or greater) corporate environments
  • Secure webservices - Apache Tomcat and IBM WebSphere
  • REST services / Angular / SPRING boot framework
  • Database (Oracle / DB2 / SQL Server / MongoDB / stored procedures)
  • Object Relational Mapping (ORM) specifications (Spring Data, JPA, Hibernate)
  • Technical certification.

Education

  • BS/BA degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience in related field
