Consultant, Environmental Geology/Engineering (Mid-Level) (Biotech)



ERM NewFields is seeking an experienced Consultant, Environmental Geology/Engineering to perform various analysis and design tasks related to soil and groundwater investigations.  This position is responsible for the characterization, design, and management of soil and groundwater remediation projects in cooperation with a project team.  Using various scientific methodologies and disciplines, the Environmental Geologist/ Modeler/ Engineer will help plan, collect, synthesize, and study source data to assess remediation alternatives and compile high-quality technical reports and presentations.  Candidate must be experienced in documenting and presenting validation and calibration data associated with groundwater and fate-and-transport models.  Candidate must have knowledge of New Jersey environmental regulations and technical guidance. Modeling experience a plus.  

The ideal candidate will have excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with sound judgment and a desire to learn new skills while working in a collaborative environment.  The position requires superior written and oral skills and the ability to interface effectively with personnel and clients.  The position requires the Candidate to perform field work and be HAZWOPER trained.

    Responsibilities:

    • Support the evaluation of the nature and extent of contamination, support risk assessments, and evaluate remediation alternatives.
    • Conduct environmental field investigations and data collection/sampling.
    • Oversee field activities (i.e., drilling, sampling, maintenance activities, and routine testing) and subcontractors.
    • Conduct site testing, design/optimize remediation systems, and evaluate viable remedial alternatives.  
    • Prepare work plans, cost estimates, project schedules, and project proposals for continuing investigation and remedial activities at various sites.
    • Evaluate, select, and apply standard techniques and procedures for engineering data analysis. Compile and assess environmental data using spreadsheets, databases, and GIS.
    • Prepare accurate and professional technical reports and presentations.
    • Document research and review related to environmental impacts.
    • Prepare groundwater flow model parameters and set up initial model runs.  Evaluate model data and refine, challenge, test, and amend flow model data using industry-standard documentation, calibration, and verification techniques. 
    • Conduct self-monitoring quality assurance/quality control and QA/QC reviews of other professionals.
    • Adhere to NewFields and client health and safety practices and protocols.
    • Maintain a valid driver's license that is in good standing with NewFields' Driver Performance Rating System.
    • Participate in team-based project work resulting in client satisfaction and the on-time completion of quality technical work products.

    ​Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering or related discipline.
    • 2+ years (4+ years preferred) of experience in the environmental consulting or related field.
    • ​Familiar with MS Office, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and groundwater transport models such as ModFlow 6 or similar, are a plus.
    • HAZWOPER is required. 
    • Driver's License Required: This position requires a valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area.
    • Required Travel: Seldom to moderate overnight travel events may be required. 
    • The position requires sitting for long periods, extended hours working on a computer, and lifting up to 30 pounds.  Field assignments are located in a variety of climate conditions and may require standing, squatting, bending, and lifting up to 30 pounds over prolonged periods.  Ability to receive acceptable medical approval to visit remote manufacturing, marine terminals, or oil terminal sites.  Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment on an infrequent basis.  PPE may include a combination of hard hats, steel-toed safety shoes, protective eyewear, safety vests, work gloves, Nitrile gloves, fire retardant, or fire-resistant clothing in compliance with various facilities safety plans (potentially 12 times per year).  Ability to drive multiple hours per day, several days per month traveling to client offices, project sites, or other meetings across the tri-state area.

    For the Consultant, Environmental Geology/Engineering (Mid-Level) position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $74,000 – $91,211 (USD).  An employee's pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs.  We also may have instances where employee's fall outside of the range based on the factors noted above. This job may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/flex force employees are NOT bonus eligible).
