Sound & Light Manager (Finance)



The Sound & Light Manager is a vital position dedicated to enhancing out-of-classroom experiences for students, fostering community engagement, and enriching the educational environment at the University of South Florida. Reporting to the Associate Director of Event Logistics & Student Development, this role oversees the planning, coordination, and execution of audio-visual, lighting, networking, and other technological systems within the MSC and adjacent spaces. The incumbent is responsible for supporting the overall vision and operational success of events, meetings, conferences, and signage applications.

In addition to technical responsibilities, the Sound & Light Manager supervises two full-time employees and oversees a team of 30 Sound & Light Student Technicians. The position emphasizes building collaborative partnerships both on and off campus with event planning and production teams, student staff, and relevant stakeholders. The Sound & Light Manager serves as a primary point of contact for the MSC, ensuring seamless execution of events and the optimal utilization of technological resources to enhance the university's community engagement and educational missionMinimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Audiovisual Technology, Event Management, Information Technology, Communications, or a related field with at least 4 years of experience in audiovisual production, event technology. 8 years of relevant experience or a combination of education and experience may substitute for the bachelor's degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

Relevant industry certifications (such as Crestron, CTS, or AVIXA), extensive experience in audiovisual production and event technology-particularly in higher education or large venues-and proven supervisory skills. Candidates should possess advanced knowledge of AV systems, networking, and digital signal processing, along with experience in event management software. Strong project management abilities, familiarity with campus operations, excellent communication skills, and a proactive, innovative approach to adopting new technologies are also highly valued.

Degree Equivalency Clause: Four years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree.

  • Develop and oversee the strategic vision, planning, and execution of technology and equipment within the MSC to support all meetings, events, and conferences held in the MSC and adjacent spaces. This includes managing Crestron systems, projectors, audio equipment, networking infrastructure, lighting, radios, and computer hardware to ensure seamless operational performance and enhanced event experiences.

  • Recruit, train, supervise, and manage the Daytime Sound & Light Supervisor, Night/Weekend Event Logistics AV Specialist, and Student Staff, ensuring adherence to professional standards and procedures. Oversee operational processes and implement improvements to deliver exceptional customer service. Respond promptly to urgent requests and concerns, effectively resolving client complaints to maintain high levels of satisfaction.

  • Cultivate strategic and collaborative partnerships with campus partners and clients to facilitate the planning and execution of events and large-scale conferences within the MSC. Serve as the primary point of contact for the MSC in liaising with the USF Information Technology Department, Campus Technology, and other relevant university departments to ensure seamless coordination and technical support.

  • Oversee the procurement and purchasing of all equipment related to Sound, Light, and Technology, ensuring timely acquisition of necessary resources. Manage event projects within the MSC, including renovations, upgrades, and remodeling of technological spaces, to maintain and enhance operational capabilities and support a high standard of event delivery.

  • Deliver exceptional customer service by responding promptly to client needs and inquiries. Conduct continuous assessments to identify opportunities for improvement, implementing strategies to enhance overall service quality and ensure a positive experience for all stakeholders.
