CM Coordinator (Finance)

About the role:

We are currently seeking aCM Coordinatorto join our Management Team at our Twentymile Mine location. The Annual Salary for this position is between $111,000 and $137,000 depending on experience.

Reporting to the General Manager. The scope of your role will be to coordinate and direct all CM mining functions in conjunction with all other ongoing activities. Responsible for developing, planning, and executing short- and long-term CM mining goals to affect the most efficient operation in terms of safety and health, production, maintenance, engineering, human resources, and material supply. This role offers a great opportunity for growth and to expand knowledge and skills.

Twentymile mine is an underground coal mine located in Colorado's scenic Yampa Valley about 20 miles outside Steamboat Springs, a ski resort and vacation destination. The surrounding area has towns both large and small including Oak Creek, Craig, Hayden, and Steamboat Springs. Hunting and fishing are very popular in this area. Shotgun and archery hunting is allowed on Peabody property for employees with proper authorization.

Peabody Twentymile has a safety-first culture and has been recognized two years in a row by the National Mining Association as the safest underground coal mine in the United Sates. The award recognizes coal and mineral mining operations with the lowest MSHA reportable injury rate. In 2023, Twentymile completed three years without a single reportable injury.

Duties will include:

  • Lead the CM production and utility activities in a manner that will maximize productivity and enhance cooperation among all departments.
  • Set performance standards and priorities for CM crews and provide constant feedback and instruction.
  • Coordinate planning efforts and vendor analysis with Maintenance, Production and Materials Departments to ensure CM plans are developed and executed in the most effective manner possible.
  • Direct the training and development of all employees assigned to CM. Utilize effective management techniques that will positively influence employees and enhance teamwork and employee involvement.
  • Comply with all company, state, and federal mine safety rules and regulations--conduct safety meetings and implement safety improvements where appropriate.
  • Actively support and adhere to the policies, procedures, goals, and objectives of Twentymile.
  • Plan and complete power moves according to predetermined timing requirements and mine standards.
  • Coordinate production, construction and maintenance activities between all shifts and crews.
  • Ensure legal compliance for entire section.
  • Develop supervisory workforce.
  • Coordinate sections activities with appropriate shift superintendent.
  • Manage each element of section cost.
  • Establish and communicate mining plans for the section.
  • Ensure safe operation and condition of section equipment including mantrips.
  • Monitor distribution of section overtime.
  • Ensure timely delivery and moving of section supplies.
  • Ensure belt system is installed timely and to mine standards.
  • Notifies payroll/human resources of changes in employee status such as schedule modifications, crew changes, changes in personal information (address, birth, marriage, etc.)
  • Collaborate with the supply chain management department and warehouse to ensure proper materials are purchased efficiently and ensure that the stocks at the mine are maintained to avoid CM operating delays.
  • Work with and collaborate with the Safety Department to ensure the SAWOL implementation is supported and enforced in the CM department.
  • Collaborate with the Conveyance and Longwall Department to ensure the three departments work together to maximize efficient production, availability and utilization of all three departments. Lead the CM production and utility activities in a manner that will maximize productivity and enhance cooperation among all departments.

About you:

  • Must have excellent organizational skills and possess a strong attention to detail.
  • Extensive background in the daily operation of CM equipment, CM planning and implementation.
  • Familiar with budget preparation and analysis, capital requisition, vendor agreements, and new technology application.
  • Computer skills-SAP, Windows and Microsoft Office
  • Read, understand and use engineering maps and drawings for section planning.
  • Have a strong understanding and knowledge of Federal and State Laws, and Company Policies.
  • CO Mine Foreman Certification
  • At least five years of past supervisory experience and the ability to positively lead both hourly and salary employees to improve performance and productivity.
  • Preferred - B.S. degree in electrical, mechanical, or mining engineering, or other related field.
  • Minimum of five years extensive hands-on experience in CM coal production

Physical requirements:

  • Must have the ability to stand for prolonged periods of time on uneven, rocky surfaces for up to the entire length of the shift
  • Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles
  • Must have the ability to walk for up to 4 hours at a time. Will be required to walk through different sections of the mine with varying degrees of clearance and headroom
  • Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA
  • Must have the ability to climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on and off equipment and ladders.
  • Must have the ability to lift/raise up to 80 lbs. without mechanical assistance frequently during the course of work shift.
  • Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, water varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area
  • The job requires that you be able to work various shifts (required shifts include days, evenings and nights with rotating schedules, weekends and holidays

  • NOTE: This is a "safety sensitive role". Individuals in safety sensitive roles cannot have:
    • an uncontrolled condition which is likely to cause loss of consciousness or ability to control a motor vehicle or other large machinery;

    • impaired hearing (with or without hearing aids) that would prevent the person from hearing crucial safety information or alarms;
    • impaired vision. Individuals must meet the minimum vison requirements of at least 20/40 acuity (Snellen) with or without correction and at least 70° field of vision in horizontal meridian measured.
