School Health Nurse Clinician - Partial Year (Full Time, Day shift) (Healthcare)

Job Summary

The School Health Nurse Clinician, Grant TCT School Health Program Nursing Coordinator provides oversight for planning, implementation and evaluation of the Grant TCT School Health program and ensures the systematic and coordinated delivery of school-based nursing services. The School Health Nurse Clinician is a community-based position embedded in a school health program operated by a pediatric hospital, serving 30 underserved schools across Miami-Dade County. This advanced nursing role provides clinical leadership, care coordination, and oversight to a team of school-based nurses to ensure the delivery of high-quality, equitable health services to students. The Nurse Clinician is responsible for supporting the implementation of comprehensive school health initiatives, including chronic disease management, mental health screenings, emergency care planning, and compliance with state and federal health mandates. The role involves conducting student assessments, mentoring nursing staff, developing individualized healthcare plans (IHPs), and collaborating with families, school personnel, and medical providers. With a focus on preventive care and improving access to services, the School Health Nurse Clinician plays a vital role in addressing health disparities, supporting student wellness, and ensuring that children are healthy, safe, and ready to learn. 

Job Specific Duties

• Provides clinical oversight and support to a team of school-based nurses across multiple sites to ensure safe, high-quality student care. 
  
• Conducts comprehensive health assessments and develop individualized healthcare plans (IHPs) for students with chronic or complex medical conditions. 
  
• Coordinates and monitors nursing, oral health, BMI, medical home, and other school health screening initiatives, including depression screenings for middle and high school students, ensuring appropriate follow-up and referrals. 
  
• Serves as a liaison between the hospital, school staff, families, and community providers to support continuity of care and resource access. 
  
• Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations, including immunization laws, medication administration protocols, and special education health requirements. 
  
• Supports grant reporting requirements by collecting, analyzing, and presenting program data using tools such as Excel and PowerPoint. 
  
• Mentors and trains school nurses on best practices, clinical protocols, emergency procedures, and professional development. 
  
• Participates and lead staff meetings. 
  
• Responds to health-related emergencies and provides consultation for urgent care decisions when escalated from school nurses. 
  
• Promotes health equity and prevention by supporting health education efforts, screenings, and outreach programs that address the needs of underserved school populations. 
  
• Represents the school health program in community outreach events and meetings as needed, promoting health education, building partnerships, and supporting engagement with families and local organizations. 
  
• Provides coverage for unplanned absences, scheduled PTO, or during periods of increased volumes such as screenings or high-visit days in the school clinics. 

Minimum Job Requirements

• Master's Degree in nursing (or) equivalent 
  
• Registered Nurse licensed within the State of Florida or Multi-State Enhanced Nursing License Compact (eNLC) – maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
  
• American Heart Association BLS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
  
• Level II Background Check - Includes fingerprint-based checks through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and the FBI, reviewing state and national criminal history records, including sex offender registries. The process ensures that individuals with disqualifying offenses, as outlined in Florida Statutes §§ 1012.465 and 435.04, are identified and excluded from roles that involve student interaction
  
• 3-5 years of clinical nursing experience in pediatrics, community health, school health, or a related field
  
• 1-3 years of experience with direct care to children and adolescents, with demonstrated ability to manage chronic conditions, acute health issues, and behavioral health needs

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Prior experience working in underserved or school-based settings is strongly preferred
  
• National Certified School Nurse (NCSN) credential preferred
  
• Knowledge of pediatric nursing principles, public health practices, and school health protocols
  
• Leadership or supervisory experience is desirable, as the role involves supporting and mentoring a team of school nurses
  
• Ability to lead and mentor nursing staff, providing clinical supervision and guidance
  
• Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills to manage acute and chronic conditions in a school setting
  
• Understanding of federal, state, and local regulations related to school health, including FERPA, HIPAA
  
• Skilled in developing Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs) and Emergency Action Plans (EAPs)
  
• Ability to create reports and visual presentations using Excel and PowerPoint for grant deliverables and program evaluation
  
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with students, families, school personnel, and healthcare providers
  
• Ability to demonstrate cultural competency and sensitivity to serve diverse, underserved school communities
  
• Able to perform calculations for medication administration
  
• Strong communication, cultural competency, and clinical decision-making skills are essential to effectively serve diverse student populations and navigate complex systems of care
  
• Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills to manage acute and chronic conditions in a school setting
  
• Proficiency in data collection and documentation, including use of Electronic Health Records (EHR) or electronic documentation systems
  
• Skilled in organization and time management skills, especially when managing multiple priorities across multiple school sites
  
• Problem-solving and decision-making abilities in both routine and emergency situations
  
• Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability to work in fast-paced, community-based environments
