Quality Control Apprentice-Steel Fabrication (Project Management)



Summary/Objective
The Quality Control Apprentice conducts quality inspections on parts in the fabrication process. Consults with management to resolve quality problems. Functions as an information source to various company departments when special and critical quality issues occur. Functions in conjunction with management and plant operations. The Quality Control Apprentice works with lead personnel and Quality Control Specialists to learn and gain experience in all aspects of quality.

Essential Functions
· Inspect product using computer vision based measurement system.
· Inspect product using various types of hand held measurement equipment. (Tape measure, caliper, height gauge, protractor etc.)
· Follow both written and verbal inspection procedures.
· Read and comprehend customer and internal blueprints.
· Complete discrepant material reports, and submit documentation to the material review team.
· Maintain the material review area to ensure that all products are inspected and distributed in a timely manner.
· Direct manufacturing personnel in the inspection and testing of product.
· Analyze, resolve, or assist personnel in solving product quality related issues.
· Maintain production and inspection records.
· Consult with supervisors and leads to coordinate inspection activities of individual departments.
· Work independently and with other quality personnel, to coordinate and maintain inspection workload.
· Other duties and responsibilities as required.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Must be able to work outside in harsh weather conditions.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The position involves standing, walking and lifting and moving up to 75 pounds for long periods of time throughout the day.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (Training Hours) 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (Standard hours) Overtime, Saturdays, as well as the possibility of altered shift hours due to varied work demands may be required at the request of your supervisor.

Travel
No travel is expected for this position.

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.

Required Education and Experience
A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications
· Fluent in English; must be a U.S. citizen or have proof of U.S. residency and be at least 21 years of age.
· Must have reliable transportation.
· Must be fluent in general Microsoft Office Suite usage.
· Experience with AutoCAD and/or other similar drawing software a plus but not required.
· Must pass pre-employment safety training, background and drug and alcohol screen. Please be aware that WMS has a comprehensive drug policy, which includes random testing.
