Director of Activities (Personal Services)
Offer new and creative activities and community outings and evaluate the success or failure of the new programs and make changes accordingly.Future plan in order to keep the activity program moving and alive by offering a variety of new and unique programs.Assure that at least thirty (30) minutes of staff time is provided per resident per week for activity duties.Prepare a monthly calendar of activities written in large print and posted in a prominent location that is visible to residents and visitors.
Keep the activity room clean, in good order and decorated in an inviting manner.Coordinate the activities program with other services in the facility.Recruit, train and supervise volunteers when appropriate.Assess and document resident needs and develop resident activity goals for the written care plan.Facilitate Resident Council meetings.Encourage resident participating in activities and document outcomes.Review goals and progress notes.Properly document MDS reports and progress.
Knowledge of:
Safety rules, policies and procedures, infection prevention and control procedures.Facility emergency/disaster response and evacuation procedures.Resident Rights and identifying abuse and/or neglect.
Skill in:
Use and care of equipment, tools and materials used in resident care activities.Working independently to complete daily activities according to work schedule.Following and maintaining safety standards.Following and effectively communicating verbal and written instructions.Operating a computer utilizing a variety of commonly used and specialized software applications.
Ability to:
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with associate personnel, residents and resident family members.Coordinate and conduct meetings.Set and achieve goals and meet deadlines.Train and motivate others.Read and write clearly.Understand and follow, quickly and accurately, oral and written instructions.Maintain confidentiality and work under pressure in a dynamic environment with changing demands and priorities.Comply with facility policies and procedures.
WORK CONTACTS Regular contacts with associate personnel, residents, resident family members and visitors.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to bear weight of 100 pounds or more.Requires constant physical activities including standing, walking, lifting, bending, stooping, pulling, stretching, turning, grasping, squatting, kneeling and reaching.Visual acuity to determine the accuracy, thoroughness and quality of work assigned.Aural acuity to receive detailed information through oral communication, often from persons with speech impairment.Safety-sensitive position pursuant to A.R.S. 23-493.
REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRANING
High school diploma or its equivalentSatisfactory completion of a training course for activity director approved by the Department of Health and Human Services or a qualified therapeutic recreation specialist or an activities professional certified by a recognized accrediting body or a qualified occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant.Two (2) years of experience in a social or recreational program approved by the Department of Health and Human Services within the last five years, one of which was full time in a resident activities program in a health care setting.
SPECIAL JOB REQUIREMENT(S)
Obtain/maintain Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Card at employees expense.Obtain/maintain CPR Certification.Complete annual Tuberculosis Testing.Complete required 12 hours of annual in-service training.
