Job Description
The Washington Post Video Department has an immediate opening for an operations manager.
The ideal candidate for this role is a talented multitasker who can manage The Post's broadcast operations (control rooms, studios) and support the equipment and computer needs of the Video Department's journalists. The operations manager is also responsible for overseeing relationships with broadcast technology vendors, managing video capital and expense budgets, and future-proofing the department by planning system and workflow improvements.
The video operations manager is responsible for maintaining broadcast equipment, including Telemetrics robotic cameras, a Clear-Com intercom system, Grass Valley switchers, Vizrt graphics, ENPS newsroom production software, Ultrix routers, Lawo audio boards, AWS Elemental encoders and Liantronics LED walls.
The ideal candidate also has experience maintaining Sony video cameras, Sony A7 and A9 mirrorless cameras, Cannon lenses, LiveU video transmission, and field lighting and audio. The successful candidate also has experience managing IT systems for video, including Quantum storage servers, the Adobe software suite and Apple operating systems.
The video operations manager is responsible for managing three studio technicians and external hardware, software and equipment maintenance vendors. Ideal candidates have seven to 10 years of experience working in a fast-paced broadcast newsroom operation. Experience managing budgets is a plus.
