American Experience is an award-winning historical documentary film series broadcasting nationally on PBS and is the longest running and most-watched history series on television. The series brings together on air and online some of the world's preeminent and most insightful historians, journalists, authors and witnesses to history. Our goal is to cement American Experience as the go-to source for great history, great storytelling, and a broader understanding that history belongs to all of us.
JOB OVERVIEW
American Experience seeks a talented and ambitious candidate to join our team as Audience Engagement Manager, tasked with building on our reputation as a go-to source for great historical storytelling on social media. The ideal candidate will possess stellar writing skills, deep social media prowess, excellent organizational skills, and a passion for community building.
Reporting to the Director of Audience Development, the Audience Engagement Manager will develop, manage and execute the strategy for American Experience's presence on social media and other distributed platforms. Working closely with the Audience Development and Digital Content teams, this individual will take on day-to-day content development and management, working to build a vibrant online community which champions the relevance of historical storytelling in today's world. Flexible and extended evening and weekend hours may be required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Management, coordination and delivery of social media campaigns for American Experience films, broadcasts and digital initiatives, from conception through implementation and reporting.
Assist in developing digital strategy plans and contribute to grant proposal development and reporting
Continuously test, define, measure and report on all efforts with an eye toward refining tactics, growing following and increasing success.
Write social copy, optimized for each platform.
Develop and disseminate campaign-specific social media toolkits for internal and external stakeholders
Relationship building with existing and potential partners to amplify and contribute to our engagement efforts.
Create and manage a content distribution calendar that drives engagement with American Experience content on-air and online.
Stay abreast of all major trends and developments in the social media ecosystem.
Act as American Experience's resident expert on GBH's social media publishing and analytics platform.
Manage paid social media campaigns.
Act as American Experience liaison with PBS Social team
Create monthly Audience Engagement report.
SKILL SET
Proven track record of leveraging social media to successfully drive organizational objectives
Proven track record of growing social audience and reach
Strong writing skills, ability to adapt writing style creatively to fit the voice of different platforms
In-depth knowledge of the latest social media best practices, tools and trends
Ability to consistently produce results as both an individual contributor as well as in a team environment
Proficiency across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok and YouTube
Exceptional time management and organization skills
Solid experience producing video content for social channels (reels, shorts, TikToks)
Experience with social media management platforms such as Sprout a plus
Solid graphic design skills preferred
Love for history essential
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in relevant field of study or equivalent work experience required. 4-7 years professional experience, with 3 years experience as a social media manager/producer.
