Production Leader (1st Shift) (Finance)
Manage the activities of the assembly line production and follow established procedures and approved processes
Manage the activities of the linked fabrication and material handling processes according to established procedures and approved processes
Ensure the safety of all employees; lead a comprehensive safety program to prevent injuries. Comply with all federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations (EPA, OSHA, etc.)
Develop subordinates through education, training and teamwork
Assist in preparation of budgets for assigned area including labor, expense, and capital budgets.
Meet or exceed plant productivity, cost, or other performance metric expectations
Hire, train, direct and mentor staff and all plant employees with diverse language, cultural and educational background
Lead continuous improvement initiatives, such as 5S with safety, Rapid Improvement Events, Practical Problem Solving (PPS) and lean manufacturing
Take the lead role in coordinating production scheduling to meet customer demands, to manage overtime, to minimize inventory and to reduce costs for assigned area
Support quality initiatives to ensure product meets or exceeds customer expectations, while minimizing scrap and rework in the production processes
Build and maintain productive employee relationships, driving employee satisfaction
Provide direction, training and development as needed
Provide coaching, counseling or discipline as needed
Recommend disciplinary action and review disciplinary action for effectiveness and consistency
Work with HR to address employee concerns and issues
Demonstrate effective trouble shooting & problem resolution ability
Support plant equipment maintenance and repair. Support machine installation or removal as needed
Must demonstrate strong verbal and written skills as well as the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees, customers and management
Communicates verbally in clear and audible fashion
Articulates intended message through e-mail or presentation with accurate grammar and minimal typos or mistakes
Responds to team members throughout day to help restore flow or troubleshoot production challenges
Facilitates group communication meetings with small group(s) of direct reports
Interacts with support functions (purchasing, quality, customer support, engineering) to proactively address issues related to production
Leads team problem solving in area of responsibility
Actively participates in change management
Clearly communicates production schedules & work assignments, ensures team has tools and resources to be successful through planning and training
Leads team to consistent achievement of daily production goals
Manages schedules well; develops and sticks to timelines and milestones
Conducts performance evaluations for team members
Resolves conflict with the additional support and guidance from leadership and/or HR on a regular basis
Provide coaching for majority of area processes with limited product specifics
Coaches for general SQDC performance
Utilizes Kronos WFR for payroll and attendance management administration
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education: Degree in Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering, Business Management or other related discipline is preferred. Minimum of associate degree in business technology or engineering or a combination of education and experience is required.
Experience: Minimum of three years of relevant plant level operations experience in a high mix/medium volume environment is required. Prior supervisory experience preferred. Experience serving large, demanding customers and understanding how to meet their needs.
Skills: First-hand knowledge of production process and products in area of responsibility. Basic knowledge and contribution to problem solving and business system software (MS Office and Kronos WFR). Ability to create presentations in some Microsoft business system software's: PowerPoint, Excel, Word
Other Requirements: Ability to demonstrate communication verbally and in writing at a basic level Knowledge of operational excellence principles, lean manufacturing, continuous improvement and 5S is preferred.
