Description · Keeps safety of campers as the first priority. Emphasizes personal safety and emotional well-being with campers, parents and other camp personnel at all times. · By personal example, helps interpret the quality of YMCA values to campers, parents and staff. Must be a positive role model. · Keeps daily attendance records for assigned group. Stays alert to camper needs. Frequently takes head counts, at the beginning, during and end of each activity period. · During staff training, work with Program Director to set up waterfront area and teach staff their responsibilities in each water activity. · Teach and monitor proper use of equipment · Conduct initial and end-of-session inventory, storing, and keeping equipment in good condition · Responsible for checking equipment and making or filing for repairs · Conduct daily check of area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair · Write and monitor the use of lesson plans that foster participants' aquatic skills · Keep records on all participants; help them progress from beginner to advanced levels · Oversee award recognition and participation certificates to campers, when earned · Assist in coordinating specialization with other camp activities · Submit orders for equipment and supplies when needed ensuring timely arrival of materials · Perform end of season evaluation and evaluate current season and make suggestions for the following season · Ability to communicate and work with groups participation (age and skill levels), and provide necessary instruction to campers · Abilities to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques · Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid
