Postdoctoral Scholar Research (Finance)



We seek a highly motivated, enthusiastic Postdoctoral Fellow to work on a Wellcome Trust-funded project investigating the intergenerational impact of exposure to the Rwandan Genocide against ethnic Tutsi. The postdoc fellow will undertake analyses of blood-derived, genome scale DNA methylation data in relation to genocide exposure and post-traumatic stress disorder, as well as investigate the role of resilience. Initially, the post doc will work as part of an international, multidisciplinary research team to maintain uninterrupted and consistent progress toward the goals of this Wellcome Trust award. A successful post doc will also have considerable latitude to develop and carry forward new, independent projects. This project is part of the rapidly growing Genomics Program located in the College of Public Health at the University of South Florida (USF), with rich opportunities for collaboration with investigators at local, national, and international levels.Minimum Qualifications:
• PhD or equivalent degree in one of the following areas: computational biology, bioinformatics,
statistical genetics, systems biology, or related area. Applicant may also be a senior graduate student in one of these areas whose thesis defense has been scheduled (but not yet completed).
• Evidence of one or more peer-reviewed publications as first- or joint first author.
• Strong oral communication skills
• Proficiency in one or more commonly used programming language such as R, C++, Python, or Perl.
• Experience working with large, high-throughput genomic data sets such as genome-wide association
studies (GWAS), epigenome-wide association studies (EWAS), and Next Generation Sequencing
(NGS) data sets.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience integrating multi-omic data and/or genomic and epidemiologic/survey data preferred.
• Experience with human-based datasets and longitudinal analysis is also desirable.Working at USF

This will involve undertaking original investigation of existing and forthcoming epigenomic datasets from Rwandan study participants that are relevant to stress-related mental disorders; drafting manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals; attending conferences to present research results; managing datasets used in ongoing research projects, assisting with the preparation of annual reports to granting agencies; and participating in the submission of grant applications.
