Corporate Product Stewardship Specialist (R&D)

Job Description 

Provides regulatory guidance and expertise to business units regarding regulatory requirements for selling products and conducting business in the Americas. Utilizes knowledge of chemical-control laws related to the manufacture, distribution, and sale of Ferro products in the Americas. Manages compliance with regional chemical control laws, hazard communication requirements, transportation classifications, and compliance with food contact regulations.

Responsibilities Related to the Job: 

  • Evaluate products, intermediates, and R&D materials to determine proper hazard classification and transportation classification.
  • Work with operations and R&D to bridge any data gaps required for the proper classification of Ferro products.
  • Work with R&D, Operations, and Customer Service to ensure all products are compliant with chemical control laws specific to the countries and/or regions where they are manufactured and shipped.
  • Manage and support the notification and registration of substances and products to regional or country inventories, including the coordination and preparation of regulatory submissions to various government agencies.
  • Provide guidance to R&D, Sales, and customers related to various food contact certifications.
  • Participate in cross functional teams to ensure regulatory compliance processes are consistently applied across all regions, including developing and implementing best practices whenever possible.
  • Manage regulatory updates related to hazard classification(s) of Ferro products.
  • Author Material Safety Data sheets within Ferro systems for multiple plants and businesses.
  • Work directly with customers to provide regulatory compliance information related to our products.
  • Manage responses to business and customer inquiries related to Product Stewardship and regulatory requests.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Social Responsibilities:

  • Maintain compliance with Ferro's Code of Business Conduct, policies and procedures, management systems, and all applicable Environmental, Health, Safety other regulations.
  • Act according to the Ferro's Values & Behaviors.

Required Qualifications and Knowledge:

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, or another job-related degree.
  • 3-5 years of Product Stewardship experience.
  • Knowledge of chemical-based health, safety, and environmental government regulations.
  • Knowledge of Global Harmonized System for preparation of Safety Data Sheets and Labels.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of chemistry/manufacturing regulations for the United States, Canada and Latin American.
  • Knowledge of inorganic and organic pigment chemistry/manufacturing.
  • Experience with FDA and MERCOSUR food contact regulations.
  • SDS authoring experience, including the SAP EHS module.
  • Certified to ship Hazmat/Dangerous Goods.

Travel Requirements:  Travel will be minimal, up to 10%
