Job Description
Director, ERM (Risk ID and Issue Mgmt focus)
Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) is responsible for establishing the highest standards for risk management at SVB. The Director, ERM will work closely with other members of the Enterprise Risk Management team, other Risk Oversight Functions and key Business Unit contacts to effectively execute their role. This role will be heavily involved in the enterprise Risk Identification and Issue Management programs. This role reports directly to the Sr. Director, ERM.
General : The primary responsibility of the Director, ERM is to support the ongoing build and implementation of the Enterprise Risk Management framework including the build and implementation of related programs, projects, reporting, risk assessments, and other activities to solidify and strengthen the 1st and 2nd Lines of Defense. The ideal candidate is a self-starter and can assimilate and switch gears easily.
Build & Implementation of Risk Programs : The ideal candidate has direct experience with building / planning risk programs, projects, and risk assessments and the implementation of those programs/projects. The role also requires a strong understanding of project management and experience managing several projects at the same time. The ideal candidate has robust experience in developing and managing an enterprise Risk Identification Program and an enterprise Issue Management program.
Client Management (internal): This role is responsible for interacting with our business partners, facilitating meetings / workshops / training sessions.
Risk Management & Leadership Expertise : The role requires a strong understanding of risk management practices within a financial services or banking environment and the ability to support a variety of projects as needed. The ideal candidate also has strong leadership, teaming, and coaching skills.
Communication & Organizational Skills : The role requires proficient communication skills (verbal/written) and strong organizational and time management skills.
Material / Documentation Development: The ideal candidate is proficient in developing professional materials such as process flows, reporting, PowerPoint decks, memos, and business requirements for a variety of professional internal / external audiences (e.g., Board, senior leadership, etc.)
Skills and Requirements
• Bachelor's degree required with a minimum of 10-15 years of relevant risk management experience
•The ideal candidate will have direct experience working in a first or second line risk role within a financial institution, or consulting experience advising financial institutions on the implementation of effective Risk Management programs
•Strong expertise with MS Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio as well as Adobe. Expertise with Tableau and experience with GRC tools a plus.
•Working knowledge of banking regulations within risk management.
•Dedicated team player.
•Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
•Demonstrated project management, analytical and problem solving skills.
•Ability to collaborate, negotiate, influence and build consensus across the organization.
