Job Overview: We are currently seeking an Instrument Subject Matter Expert (SME) supporting the US based Hydrogen and Carbon Monoxide facilities. The role will be based out of one of the following locations: Deer Park, TX; Geismar, LA or Whiting, IN. This position will report to the HyCO Reliability Director and will collaborate with the HyCO Maintenance, Reliability, Engineering and Operations teams to achieve strategic reliability goals for instrumentation and SIS programs in Linde's Hydrogen / Carbon Monoxide (HyCO) facilities. Primary support locations are in Southeast Texas, Southern Louisiana, Chicago and Northeastern US. The overall objective of the Instrument SME will be to take accountability for long term safe and reliable operation of instrumentation and SIS systems at production facilities. The Instrument SME will be accountable for owning critical safety system and SIS testing, instrument maintenance plans, and instrument technology upgrades which drive improvements in reliability. The role will provide technical oversight of SIS compliance, support for the planning and execution of major projects & turnarounds, and the testing and repairs of instrumentation. This person will be expected to work with site teams and independently, making technical decisions and recommendations in the field. Primary Responsibilities: - Provide oversight of SIS programs and compliance. Responsible for SIS and critical safety system work process and testing procedure edits and updates. - Provide technical expertise on critical safety system compliance, installation, commissioning, testing, troubleshooting and documentation. - Focal point for instrument changes in technology and work process that drive overall reliability improvement. - Responsible for effective instrument PM, end of life and maintenance strategies - Assist in the planning, scheduling, coordinating and execution of major equipment installations, maintenance activities and testing - including corrective, preventive and predictive work on systems including:- Control Valves and related actuators & positioners - Older vintage hard-wired instrument systems. - Modern transmitter-based instrument systems. - SIS and critical safety system testing - Lead contract and Linde technicians in field execution of advanced system troubleshooting and maintenance. - Provide technical mentoring for instrument technicians to improve overall maintenance team knowledge and performance - Provide support for turnaround organization and special projects as required, including planning and cost estimation. - Provide on-site and remote technical support for instrumentation and SIS equipment at HyCO facilities. - Support root cause analysis program for significant failures. - Drive resolution of highest impact issues with a strong sense of urgency and integrity. - Work independently and make decisions based on full awareness of life cycle cost and other benefits. - This position requires a combination of office work and field work. This position typically requires approximately 40% travel domestically. - Accessibility during off-hours is required. - Employee will be required to have/obtain a TWIC card, participate in DISA and any other costumer related requirements to gain access to sites. - Employee will be required to work in different weather conditions and must be able to access elevated equipment via ladders and scaffolding. Qualifications: - Minimum 8 years' experience maintaining, installing, troubleshooting, inspecting, repairing, and testing instrumentation in an industrial manufacturing environment. BS degree in engineering a plus. - Must have technical competencies in troubleshooting, root cause failure analysis, general computer skills, work planning and estimating. - Must be able to manage multiple priorities, drive issues to completion and obtain results. - Must be proficient in the use of CMMS (EAM a plus but not mandatory), Instrument database tools (i.e. ProCal), Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. - Proven knowledge of applicable IEC & NFPA requirements regarding Critical safety systems.
