Food Service Coordinator (Finance)

Position Overview

The Food Service Coordinator is responsible for leading the Food Service team and the food service operations at their assigned school location to ensure meals for students are properly portioned and served.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Ensure food service operations comply with departmental, local, state, and federal agency rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Coordinate the operation of the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), under the Food Service Leadership Team.
  • Assist in monitoring compliance with NSLP and SFSP regulations.
  • Complete orders and surveys related to USDA Foods and DOD Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Programs.
  • Inventory and verify food order deliveries; oversee USDA food deliveries bi-weekly during the school year and summer, if applicable.
  • Submit weekly reports verifying USDA food deliveries.
  • Address food service issues and complaints related to meal program operations and federal regulations.
  • Conduct taste tests, staff and student surveys, and nutrition education workshops.
  • Present nutrition programs to students, parents, and teachers.
  • Assist in preparing and distributing bids, quotes, and requests for proposals for food, supplies, and equipment; gather equipment specifications and cut sheets for Equipment Grant applications; navigate the Grant Gateway as needed.
  • Assist in plan reviews for new and renovated kitchens and equipment.
  • Prepare written nutrition information for school board members, district administration, principals, and Food Service Staff as directed.
  • Attend District Wellness Committee meetings and establish and oversee the Food Service Advisory Committee (FSAC).
  • Prepare sites for and assist with District, State Education Department, and Federal audits.
  • Participate in meetings, workshops, and seminars to stay informed and gather necessary information.
  • Verify and monitor HACCP procedures, including temperature logs and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Monitor and update Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) as needed.
  • Maintain inventory records and update inventory values according to district and Food Department procedures.
  • Operate usual office machines and perform clerical duties, including typing reports and materials from rough drafts.
  • Work with student clubs to plan special activities in the dining area.
  • May be required to work outside regular hours for special events or activities.
  • Manage office operations, including receiving visitors, handling inquiries, and providing information related to applications.
  • Oversee all aspects of the Point of Sale (POS) System, including verifying daily reports, contacting parents regarding depleted student funds, and coordinating with IT and Finance departments to set up new student accounts.

KIPP Capital Region
  • Complies with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including the NYS Department of Education, Department of Health, and NYS Office of Children and Family Services.
  • Complies with transportation regulations and organizational policies and procedures; promotes and supports mission, vision, and values, including developing and participating in internal surveys and data collection for continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Bachelor's degree in hotel and restaurant management, food service management, or related field is preferred.
  • Food protection manager certification (FPMC) or food service management professional (FMP) accreditation is advantageous.
  • Proven experience working in the food service industry in a leadership role.
  • Sound knowledge of labor laws and food health and safety regulations.
  • Cooking experience along with menu and food preparation in a cafeteria setting, preferred
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule outside of regular business hours
  • Ability to create and work within an inclusive environment that honors and supports a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives.

KIPP Capital Region offers a competitive salary ranging from $57,000 - $63,000.

Salaries are determined using an equitable compensation scale that accounts for years of experience relevant to the role and longevity within the KIPP network. KIPP Capital Region will evaluate and determine the step/level a new hire will be placed within our teacher salary scale at point of hire.
