Sustainability Specialist (Project Management)



Job Summary

As part of Medline's global Sustainability Program, the Sustainability Specialist will support the company's mission to build a sustainable and resilient healthcare supply chain that benefits both providers and communities. This role will focus on improving the environmental and social impact of Medline's product portfolio, while also supporting corporate giving initiatives centered on volunteerism and product donations.
Key responsibilities include supporting the company's greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory, implementing carbon reduction strategies, and supporting the climate risk assessment process. The Specialist will also collaborate with divisional, functional, and regional stakeholders to implement a global sustainable product strategy, working closely with product managers, sales teams, and healthcare customers to deliver environmentally responsible solutions.
Success in this role requires a basic understanding of corporate sustainability, healthcare-specific environmental challenges, GHG accounting, and project and program management, along with working knowledge of product development and quality systems.

Job Description

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Decarbonization strategy and implementation (35%)

  • Support the Sustainability Program Manager, Climate to maintain and update the company's greenhouse gas inventory, ensuring auditable, accurate tracking and reporting of emissions.
  • Support the development and documentation of consistent governance procedures, roles and responsibilities for preparing, controlling and retaining carbon accounting data, working closely with the Controller, Sustainability.
  • Communicate with internal stakeholders, including the continued upskilling of data providers on requirements and compliance.
  • Assist in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement effective carbon reduction plans, including plant controllers, suppliers, customers, and other collaborative groups.
  • Support projects with our customers regarding carbon reduction activities.
  • Support the execution of Medline's annual climate risk assessment.

Sustainable Products strategy (35%)

  • Support the implementation of a cohesive sustainability strategy across multiple business divisions, ensuring alignment with corporate Sustainability goals and healthcare customer expectations.
  • Support the Sustainability Senior Program Manager with developing a program with prioritized projects, aligning with product divisions and sales teams.
  • Assist in the development and management of processes, systems and tools to track, verify, and communicate sustainability attributes (e.g., recyclability, carbon footprint, material content).
  • Support communication plans regarding product attributes aligned with business strategy and risk management.
  • Continue to monitor and analyze sustainability topics as they pertain to sustainable products and programs for consideration in the context of how they do or do not align to Medline's global sustainability strategy and organizational goals. 

Corporate Giving (20%)

  • Support the Director of Sustainability Reporting and Communications with corporate giving initiatives.
  • Lead communication and coordination with Medline's Service Corps.
  • Lead the quarterly Blood Drives at Medline.
  • Manage, coordinate, track, and execute product donations in coordination with Compliance.
  • Support other volunteer opportunities as needed.

Program management (10%)

  • Provide general project and program management support, as required.
  • Provide reporting support, as required.
  • Support team activities, coordination, and events, as required.
  • Provide and present data and information for external communication, as required.

 

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education

• Bachelor's degree in sustainability, business, marketing, communications, non-profit organization management or related field.

Work Experience

• +2 years of work experience

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Understanding of cross-divisional initiatives and influence stakeholders across product, sales, and executive teams.
  • Understanding of healthcare sustainability priorities and challenges.
  • Knowledge of carbon and LCA tools, sustainability certifications (e.g. – Watershed, WRAP)
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Intermediate level skill in Microsoft PowerPoint (for example: applying a theme, formatting character spacing, inserting a picture, changing slide layout and theme colors, adding transitions, customizing slide numbers, changing chart style and/or formatting font).
  • Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Excel.
  • +2 years of work experience
  • Bachelor's degree in sustainability, business, marketing, communications, non-profit organization management or related field.

The anticipated salary range for this position:

$68,640.00 - $99,320.00 Annual

The actual salary will vary based on applicant's location, education, experience, skills, and abilities. This role is bonus and/or incentive eligible. Medline will not pay less than the applicable minimum wage or salary threshold.
