Accounting Manager - Franchise Services (Information Technology)



The Manager in our Franchise department is the liaison between the Partner, the client, and the professional staff. The Manager is responsible for managing multiple consulting or accounting projects simultaneously, and scheduling, staffing, and coordinating workflow. Managers develop and train staff and build relationships to develop new business for the Firm. Advanced technical skills along with well-developed and applied management and supervisory skills are required.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Reviews complex accounting transactions and has a deep understanding of GAAP, AICPA and other accounting standards.
  • Ensures documentation of client-specific notes in client records.
  • Ensure documentation of weekly and period-end processing procedures.
  • Upholds timely communication with the client and possesses a thorough knowledge of the client and client's business.
  • In collaboration with the senior team lead, ensures adequate staffing and availability of team members; considers business continuity and risk when staffing assignments.
  • Considers opportunities for process enhancements and a stronger system of internal controls and collaborates with the greater team.
  • Conducts final review of financial statements to ensure timely, accurate financials are delivered to the client.
  • Coordinates external audit and review efforts on behalf of the client.
  • Performs a detailed review of the financial statements and documentation at year-end for tax return preparation.
  • Assumes responsibilities for project management.
  • Monitors budgets.
  • Supervises staff of Associates, Accounting Technicians, Accounts Payable Clerks, etc. and provides on-the-job training; reviews workpapers and reports prepared by staff.
  • Anticipates problem areas and questions that will arise during the course of a project.
  • Keeps Partner informed of all-important developments; analyzes problems and recommends solutions.
  • Ensures that financial statements, tax returns, and letters of recommendations are prepared in accordance with professional and Firm standards.
  • Communicates progress of projects, problems, and resolutions to client.
  • Works to develop responsible, trained staff by assisting in performance evaluations.
  • Possesses knowledge of the Firm's philosophy and its opinions on financial matters.
  • Maintains knowledge of general economic and political trends of possible tax or other legislation that could affect the business climate.
  • Develops relationships with clients and provides high quality client service. Adding value to clients' businesses is an integral part of the job requirements. Begins to learn cross-selling opportunities and refer those opportunities to appropriate professionals within the firm.
  • Learns through Performance Advisor or direct Supervisor proper delegation and management of workload and demonstrates ability to properly delegate and manage workload.
  • Participates in and embraces firm initiatives.
  • Acts as an engaging leader with the ability to communicate effectively with team members and clients.
  • Prepares other reports and projects as requested from time to time by Partners.
  • Understands the Firm's business on a day-to-day basis: billings and collections, proper utilization of staff, Firm policies and procedures, etc.
  • Encouraged to join a community association related to his/her field after first year of employment with Performance Advisor approval prior to joining.
  • Assumes individual responsibility to learn all new technology introduced by the Firm as appropriate for service/practice area.
  • Such other duties as may be assigned.

Requirements:

  • 5 -7 years of experience in accounting or consulting, demonstrating a progression in complexity and number of projects managed.
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in accounting, or degree appropriate to practice area.
  • Current and valid CPA license strongly preferred. If licensed, must be a member in good standing with the AICPA and respective state societies.
  • GAAP experience strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in use of computers and computer accounting software, or software appropriate to practice group.
  • Must have experience directly supervising team members.
  • Experience working with Franchises preferred.
