DESCRIPTION
Michael Baker is seeking a Technical Writer II to join our San Diego office. This is a full-time position working 40 hours a week with full benefits. Under limited supervision, the Technical Writer II will provide support services primarily to the San Diego and Carlsbad offices.
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Provide technical editing/review of documents/narrative/literature prepared by others to ensure consistent application of appropriate style guide standards and grammatical accuracy/correctness
Organize materials and complete writing assignments according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology
Arrange for formatting, reproduction, and distribution of deliverables
Review deliverables to recommend revisions or changes in format, content, and methods of reproduction and binding
Maintain records and files of work and revisions
Confer with internal clients to determine the clearest and most logical way to present information for greatest audience comprehension
Select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material
Generate innovative ideas for content and workflow solutions
Prepare detailed project descriptions or other narrative based on internal client interviews and review of project scope documents
Confer with production and engineering personnel and review blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, reports, and other materials to become familiar with technologies, subject matter, and production methods
Assist in preparation of meeting minutes, project deliverables, and similar documents
Seek opportunities to build rapport with internal clients and to demonstrate the value added by utilizing technical writer's skills
Use available resources to prepare quality deliverables
Adhere to time estimates and sufficiently balance efficiency with quality of work
Manage workload independently and prioritize multiple writing assignments simultaneously
When requested or directed, provide guidance or training to less-experienced personnel
Overall support of the San Diego and Carlsbad offices on a variety of technical writer and Microsoft software user tasks
Other duties, as assigned
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Must possess excellent communication skills
Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience, and at least 4 years of related experience
Outgoing, organized, and assertive
Excellent English language skills, written and verbal, are essential to success in this role
Strong computer skills
Intermediate to expert knowledge of Microsoft 365 products including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, and Project
Basic knowledge of Adobe Acrobat
Prior experience within the A/E/C or Planning and Environmental industries is preferable
COMPENSATION
The salary range for this position is $70,000-$106,000. This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.
