[2025-2026] Marketing and Communications Intern (Finance)

Position Overview
The Marketing and Communications Intern is responsible for performing and assisting with various administrative tasks and projects to support the Director of Communication and Organizational Impact.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Communication
  • Assist with writing high quality and compelling longer form pieces, as well as shorter social media posts, that communicate stories from the KIPP community to inspire stakeholders (donors, staff, families, and the general public).
  • Publish ongoing stories (internal and external) that capture and share the celebratory aspects of KIPP Capital Region for internal newsletters.
  • Support building monthly content plans and comprehensive annual communications calendar that supports the communications efforts of KIPP.
  • Gather in-person content for digital media, including quotes from families, teachers, and students; photos and videos from schools.
  • Support Social Media Managers by creating templates, guidelines and annual calendars.

Marketing Support
  • Support KIPP organizational goals through digital marketing:
    • Support content creation and messaging strategies for all digital marketing efforts, organic and paid, within these campaigns including, but not limited to, Facebook/Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, search and display advertising, website, video, streaming audio, and email marketing
    • Use e-marketing platform ConstantContact to create email marketing templates and newsletters to drive success with various audiences
    • Collaborate with internal teams to make website updates using WordPress or in partnership with website vendors
    • Create and execute in partnership with the Director of Communication and Organizational Impact a holistic timeline and calendar for digital strategy and deliverables related to all campaigns outlined above, including for talent recruitment
  • Ensure all marketing is brand-aligned, including sourcing and procurement of promotional materials

Marketing and Communications Strategy and Execution
  • Assist with building brand loyalty and awareness by developing and implementing effective communication strategies.
  • Meet with partner teams, academic leadership teams, school leaders, and other KIPP Capital Region stakeholders to establish project scopes for writing projects, collateral and marketing campaigns.
  • Plan and manage the design, content, and production of marketing materials (one-pagers, brochures, etc.).
  • Devise blog strategy to externally portray what makes KIPP Capital Region's school communities and value proposition unique to prospective students, families, and team members.

Copywriting and Editing
  • Develop collateral and communication that is fresh, powerful, and action-oriented.
  • Work collaboratively with the team and internal partners to help shape ideas or initial thoughts into bigger ideas and clear prose.
  • Create communication drafts, including internal emails and one pagers.

KIPP Capital Region
  • Perform other duties as outlined by the Director of Communication and Organizational Impact.

  • Complies with all charter, federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including the NYS Department of Education, Department of Health, and NYS Office of Children and Family Services.
  • Adheres to organization policies and procedures; promotes and supports mission, vision, and values, including developing and participating in internal surveys and data collection for continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of a High School Diploma/GED and current enrollment in an Associate, Bachelor, or Masters program at an accredited College or University required.
  • Experience with Canva and Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Suite.
    Interest in working in a dynamic and supportive work environment committed to ensuring every student has what they need to be successful.

  • The internship is ideally suited for individuals seeking hands-on experience in Communications.
  • The internship duration may vary depending on academic requirements and organizational needs.
  • Preferred experience working directly with students, preferably required in the charter, private, or public school environment.
  • Prior experience working in schools and urban communities is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule outside of regular business hours.
  • Aptitude to create and work within an inclusive environment that honors and supports a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives.

  • Prolonged periods were sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the school and other facilities as needed.

  • The employee needs to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use fingers to type, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance; stoop/bend and reach, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk, hear.
  • Dexterity requires writing and operating standard office machines such as computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, phones, and calculators.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.
