Colson Group is seeking a Tool & Die Technician in our Saint Joseph, MI manufacturing location. The Tool & Die Technician will oversee the tool room department and its associated activities, as well as providing technical assistance to the production team and various departments within the business. Primary function will be repairing and preventative maintenance of production tooling (stamping dies), participate in new design approval and die tryout process, assist with the development of prototype product as well as design and construct jigs and fixtures. Responsible for maintaining a safe working environment, accountability for quality of work, and task completion. Report on those activities to management in the support of company initiatives, standards, policies and overall continuous improvement.
Primary Responsibilities: Operate and maintain tool room equipment such as Mills, Lathes, Grinders, Drills, and other equipment related to the maintenance of stamping dies. • Maintain progressive, line, draw, and compound stamping dies. • Tool & die makers must understand computerized measuring machines and metal working processes, such as stock removal, chip control, and heat treating & plating. • Ensures Lock-Out / Tag-Out procedures are followed when working on equipment. • Performs tasks according to safety standards, reports any and all safety issues immediately. • Support company initiatives by maintaining adherence to organization standards and policies. • Support the creation and sustainment of processes and procedures by analyzing operating practices, record-keeping systems, forms of control, and supporting continuous improvement. • Use Lean Manufacturing tools and techniques to enhance and improve productivity. • Support the efforts of other departments through prompt responsiveness to requests and inquiries. • Tool & die makers must stand for extended periods and perform repetitious movements.
