Engineer III - Civil (Finance)

Minnesota Power is currently seeking an Engineer III - Civil to join its Engineering Services team. This role will provide project management and engineering support for capital projects including transmission and distribution lines, substations, thermal and renewable generation facilities, and emerging technologies. When you join our Engineering Services team, you will help maintain and enhance infrastructure, ensuring reliable service to customers and supporting the community's needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead project management and engineering for energy-related initiatives at Minnesota Power/ALLETE, overseeing projects from inception to delivery within the Engineering Services team.
  • Responsibilities include: project management, project schedule development, engineering, budgeting, safety, permitting, security, procurement, bidding, contract management, and construction.
  • Ensure cost-effective engineering practices to enhance customer operations, maintain system reliability, and ensure safety for employees and the public.
  • Lead civil and structural engineering projects, directing teams, vendors, and consultants to ensure goals are met, and projects are successfully executed.
  • Develop and maintain credible relationships with departments, consultants, contractors, vendors, agencies, customers, and the public.
  • Serve as a technical consultant both within and beyond the assigned department, leveraging expertise to provide guidance and support.
  • Provide regular updates to stakeholders on project status, including schedule, budget, and risk assessments.
  • Actively participate in all project phases, from conceptualization to construction and commissioning, with responsibilities in both office and field environments.
  • Support development of standards for design, materials, construction, and operations.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited program, or equivalent.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
  • Four years or more of related engineering experience PLUS a Professional Engineer license.
  • Project and construction management experience is desired.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • This position may be considered for a hybrid work arrangement based on ALLETE's needs. A Hybrid work arrangement means the employee's position will be a blend of work performed both in-person and at an offsite location such as an employee's home office. This position will report to Duluth, MN.
  • Must currently possess Professional Engineer licensure in the state of Minnesota or be able to obtain licensure in Minnesota within six months of the date of hire.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • This position requires travel to different Minnesota Power/ALLETE facilities and project sites.
  • After hours and out of town travel is occasionally required.
  • Requires high level of interpersonal and communication skills to establish and maintain positive and productive working relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to excel both independently and in team-based project environments.
  • This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.

BENEFITS:
  • The expected annual compensation range for this position is $91,000 - $114,000. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will vary depending on relevant knowledge, skills, training, experience, and market conditions. Additionally, this position qualifies for a comprehensive benefits package, including an Incentive Program, Retirement Benefits, Medical, Dental & Vision Plans, Health Savings Account, Flexible Spending Account, Life Insurance, Disability, Tuition Reimbursement, Voluntary Benefits, Paid Absences, and more.
