The Environmental Health and Safety Intern will assist, contribute, or lead initiatives to launch or improve staple EHS programs that are identified as current gaps for Cook MyoSite. Intern will be involved in day-to-day activities that support the EHS department and employee safety.
Responsibilities
Experience Gained by Intern
• Employee will gain understanding of analyzing and assessing job hazards and providing corrective actions.
•Development of a JHA program from its infancy to launch will allow intern to understand the foundational aspects of the program.
• Firsthand involvement into Near Miss/OSHA Recordable incidents, from the first reporting through to the workman's compensation discussions (if such incident is available during intern tenure).
• Review/create/update standard EHS policies. Intern will learn basics of applying OSHA Federal Regulations into policy for employees to follow.
• Review of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and how to apply the information contained within an SDS to evaluate the requirements to use the material in a safe manner.
• Direct experience contributing to safety inspections and working with a Safety Committee.
• Goal is for intern to lead several discussions on various MYO relatable topics to provide experience in public speaking and leading discussions.
• Assist in the creation and launching of a Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) program.
• Shadow and/or lead incident investigations.
• Assist in creation or updating of current policies and procedures.
• Contribute to the review and approval/denial of new material requests.
• Aide in onsite safety inspections and assigning action items if required.
• Involvement in Safety Committee meetings.
• Assist in creation/updating of Life Safety Maps.
Qualifications
Undergraduate degree, or in the process of obtaining degree
6 months preferred. Will consider educational experience in lieu of industry experience

• Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software, and other general office equipment.
• Ability to conduct and hear ordinary conversation and telephone communication.
• Must be able to work extended hours beyond normal work schedule to include, but not limited to, evenings, weekends, extended work hours and/or extra work hours, sometimes on short notice as required.
• Ability to work under specific time constraints.
• Must be able to sit at desk, in meetings and/or work on a computer for long or extended periods of time.
• Visual and manual acuity for working with computers and equipment.
• Ability to spend majority of day standing in warehouse setting for extended periods of time, and at times work within confined areas.
• Physically capable of standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing steps and ladders, reaching, twisting and bending on occasion with or without reasonable accommodations.
• Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
• Must be capable of performing PPE gowning procedures on a frequent basis to enter BioSafety Level II including but not limited to safety glasses, lab coat, gloves, specialized clothing including laboratory scrubs (pants and shirt), appropriate shoes, and facial mask (if required) on a regular basis.
