Grounds Supervisor (Finance)



Job Description Summary

The grounds supervisor is responsible for assisting with overseeing the maintenance and upkeep of the property grounds and the upkeep of the pool. They coordinate with the grounds keeping staff to ensure that the grounds are kept safe, attractive, and functional.

Job Description

Principle duties and responsibilities (Essential Functions) include:

  • Plan, schedule and coordinate daily maintenance upkeep of the hotel's grounds, trees, plants and water features.
  • Conduct pre-shift meetings with staff and review all information pertinent to the day's business.
  • Create, maintain and execute departmental check lists and walk through property areas.
  • Operations of various hand, power and landscaping tools to complete the job in an adequate time frame.
  • Operate heavy equipment such as a forklift, mini excavator, tractor and other equipment to complete tasks.
  • Maintain schedules and other administrative duties that may include payroll.
  • Assist with conducting, maintaining and ordering monthly landscaping supplies for grounds and pool maintenance, making sure the inventory is up to date.
  • Ensure that all ground equipment and materials are maintained and used in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Plant and maintain tress, shrubs, and plants a necessary.
  • Assist with the supervision and training of the landscaping staff.
  • Assist with inspecting and repairing fences, benches, and other structures on the grounds.
  • Assist with management and maintenance of irrigation systems, weed and pest control.
  • Maintain pest and disease control programs throughout the property.
  • Ensure that all ground maintenance activities are carried out in compliance with local and state regulations.
  • Update and keep accurate records of grounds maintenance activities, including cost and materials used.
  • Update and keep accurate records of chemical levels, maintenance activities, and other relevant data.
  • Adhere to pool safety regulation and standards.
  • Assist with coordination with contractors and vendors to ensure timely and quality services.
  • Attend required training and attend meetings as needed.
  • Ability to deliver high quality customer service and responds to customer needs.
  • Ability to anticipate work needs and interact professionally to extend customer service with a professional and pleasant personality.
  • Ability to perform work without direct supervision and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ensure uniform and personal appearance are clean and professional.
  • Display daily professional, courteous, attentive, helpful, and positive attitude towards all guests, fellow employees, and managers.
  • Ability to work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team to reach common goals.
  • Ability to follow Sonesta's policies and procedures according to company guidelines.
  • Maintain confidentiality of proprietary information; protect company assets.
  • Perform other job duties as requested by supervisors/managers as other job duties may be assigned as needed.
  • Understanding Sonesta's company and safety policies and maintain compliance with OSHA and the health department requirements.

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Valid Driver's License preferred.
  • Ability to proactively communicate and work effectively with hotel staff, corporations, and hotel customers.
  • Knowledge of plant identification, pest management and irrigation systems.
  • Ability to operate various types of landscaping equipment, tools and machinery.
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification preferred.
  • Reading and writing abilities to understand departmental correspondence and complete all required departmental documents.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, including dealing with difficult guests.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, related computer software programs, and Opera systems preferred.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws governing equal employment opportunity and civil rights, occupational safety and health, wage and hour issues, and Innkeeper laws.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and maintain a high level of performance.

Education and Experience:

  • Highschool diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in landscaping and/or water-feature role.
  • Previous hotel and customer service-related knowledge preferred.

Work Environment:

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Outdoor & Indoor work environments.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to r each overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping. Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period. Ability to move over sloping, uneven, or slippery surfaces. Ability to move up and down ladders, stairs, and service ramps.
  • Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Ability to stand during the entire shift.

Expected Hours of Work:

  • Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel.
  • Must be flexible to work various days and various shifts of the week to include weekends, holidays, days, nights and overnight.
  • Regular attendance in conformance with the standards which have been established by the hotel from time to time is essential to the successful performance of this position.

Travel:

  • No travel required. On property work required.

Pay Range

$31.92-$34.24 Base pay offered may vary depending on various factors including but not limited to job related knowledge, skills, and job specific/overall experience.
