JOB DESCRIPTION
Part Time (20-25 hrs.) Salary Range $9.00 - $11.05
POSITION TITLE: Library Shelver
REPORTS TO: Assistant Library Director
SUPERVISES: -------
PURPOSE OF POSITION: Responsible for shelving library materials, maintaining order in library collections and spaces, and assisting in other tasks that support library service.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Checks in, sorts and shelves library materials.
Keeps shelves and library spaces in orderly condition.
Shelf reads.
Pulls items from shelves for holds list.
Shifts materials on shelves as needed or directed.
Inspects library materials to determine if repair is necessary.
Assists patrons, including helping them find materials, use the catalog and use the self-check units.
Brings in books from book return.
Assists with library programs and displays.
Assists with opening and closing activities.
Performs related duties as directed or as the situation dictates.
*Attendance at the assigned work location is an essential function.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
May assist at circulation desk, under supervision of Head of Circulation or designated supervisor.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITY:
Education equivalent to junior in high school (eligible for a child labor permit, if required).
Basic computer skills.
Ability to perform general clerical duties, including sorting in alphabetical and numeric order.
Must be able to work evenings and weekends as scheduled.
Must be able to deal effectively and tactfully with the public, volunteers, and other employees.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position involves a continuous succession of standing, carrying, walking, pulling, climbing, reaching, squatting, and bending. Dexterity and good eyesight are required to check, sort, and shelve items. Weight lifted and carried: 1-25 lbs., weight pulled on carts: 25-175 lbs.
