Mortgage Production Manager (Marketing)

General Summary (What is done and why)

This position is responsible for managing a loan production office and all related loan officers and lending assistants. Loan production offices are responsible for the development of the growth strategy for mortgage lending in particular markets. The Mortgage Production Manager is responsible for recruiting, on-boarding and ongoing support of Mortgage Advisors. This position is responsible for evaluating and managing the staffing needs and business development tactics needed to maximize production and growth of the office while developing relationships with key market resources and also producing themselves.

Essential Functions, in Priority Order (Majority of duties, but not meant to be all inclusive or prevent other duties from being assigned as necessary)

  1. Responsible for ongoing recruiting and leading a team of Mortgage Advisors (MAs) within the loan production office to help increase sales activity and to ensure established sales policies and procedures are adhered too. Provides support to MAs by coaching, communicating, and training to close knowledge gaps and increase sales; recommends and develops appropriate sales job aids or sales tools; facilitates regular update meetings with the team; recruits and hires Mortgage Advisors aligned with the channel growth plan. Responsible for solving and elevating issues related to the origination of mortgages within the loan office MA team. Researches borrower questions or issues and handles call escalations originating in the loan production office to support Members across all markets. Time: 50%
  2. Personal loan production and financial counseling through interviewing, pre-qualifying and the mortgage loan application process. Monitor and manage sales pipeline consisting of mortgage applications taken but not yet closed; follow-up with mortgage operations personnel as necessary to obtain loan status and outstanding conditions; assist with clearing of underwriting conditions as necessary; re-structure loan terms and programs as necessary; monitor interest rate lock periods to ensure that locked rates are not allowed to expire; verify closing figures with operations personnel prior to loan closing. Develop and maintain relationships with the real estate/builder community to promote real estate loan programs. Represent the Credit Union at community real estate functions. Give educational presentations within the community. Time: 40%
  3. Responsible for maintaining industry knowledge of products, guidelines, regulations, policy and other industry relevant intelligence. Recommends/coordinates educational/training activities to maintain and enhance sales, knowledge, policies and procedures of the MAs. Occasionally attends relevant industry conferences or events to capture best practices and bring enhancements back to the team. Researches new sales technologies, initiates vendor discussions, and participates in mortgage systems projects as they relate to Mortgage Production; informs stakeholders and sponsors of progress, issues, or opportunities. Supports the rollout of new systems or tools as a liaison to the Mortgage team. Time: 10%

Education (Minimum education required to perform the duties of this position)

  • Bachelors degree in business, finance, or related field or two years of related work experience desired.

Experience (Minimum experience required to perform the duties of this position)

In addition to the education requirement:

  • Management experience required.
  • 3 or more years experience in sales or sales support roles within the mortgage industry.
  • NMLS registration required.
  • Past success as a Mortgage Loan Originator preferred.
  • Experience with outbound business development preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Minimum technical and communication skill levels and licenses/certificates normally required to perform the duties of this position)

  • Strong knowledge of mortgage industry regulations including RESPA, ECOA, HMDA, Truth-In-Lending, FCRA, HVCC, ECOA, and SAFE Act.
  • Sound understanding of FNMA, FHLMC, FHA/VA, and RD lending guidelines.
  • Working knowledge of the mortgage origination process.
  • General familiarity with mortgage servicing and secondary marketing requirements/procedures.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Prior use or familiarity with Encompass, Blend and Optimal Blue is desired.
  • Ability to maintain poise, confidence, and professionalism when dealing with challenging member interactions.
  • Ability to facilitate/lead effective training classes or other business meetings.
  • Strong organizational skills, detailed oriented and excellent time management skills.
  • Computer skills using business productivity software.

Physical Demands (Physical effort generally associated with this position)

Work involves standing and walking for brief periods of time, but most work is done from a seated position. There is potential for eyestrain from prolonged work at the computer. Individual must be able to travel to complete applicable assignments, projects and training. Deadlines, workloads and pressure to achieve goals may cause increased stress levels. Occasionally may be required to lift 25 pounds.

Working Conditions (Typical working conditions associated with this type of work and environmental hazards, if any, that may be encountered in performing the duties of this position)

Internal - Work is normally performed in climate controlled office environment, where exposure to conditions of extreme heat/cold, poor ventilation, fumes and gases is very limited. Noise level is moderate and includes sounds of normal office equipment (computers, telephones, etc.). No known environmental hazards are encountered in normal performance of duties. Length of day is unpredictable; long hours may be required to accommodate deadlines or special meetings.

External - Some travel (approximately up to 25%) to events and real estate offices within the market area and other sites may be required; however, information on environmental conditions is not available.
