Position Summary:

Rice Global develops and implements the university's global strategy to advance Rice's research and educational impact worldwide. The Global Programs Specialist supports the daily operations, outreach, and special projects of Rice Global, serving as the first point of contact for students, faculty, staff, and external partners. Reporting to the Global Student Programs Manager, the specialist provides high-level support for student programs and initiatives, including direct student support, program outreach, event planning, logistics, and reporting.

Workplace Requirements:

This position is offered as a hybrid role after a probation period, combining both in-office and remote work to provide flexibility and support collaboration. The position requires on-campus presence at least three days a week, on a schedule to be determined with their supervisor. Per Rice policy 440 , work arrangements may be subject to change.

Hiring Range: $55,000 - $60,000 annually

This is an exempt (salaried) position under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime.

This position is funded by restricted funds for three full years. Continued employment is contingent securing additional funding.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A Bachelors degree
  • 1+ years of administrative experience

Skills:
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet expected deadlines and schedules
  • Attention to detail

Preferences:
  • 2+ years experience in a higher education or non-profit setting, or in student support
  • Experience using Canva, Adobe InDesign, or other design software for creating marketing or outreach materials
  • Familiarity with web content management systems and/or basic HTML
  • Experience planning or coordinating academic or public events
  • Ability to quickly learn and use new software and digital tools
  • Demonstrated interest in international programs/outreach

Essential Functions:
  • Administers the daily operations of assigned program(s) with general guidance
  • of a faculty member or a senior staff member
  • Recommends and implements outreach plans, including communications,
  • events, marketing, conferences, etc.
  • Plans and coordinates logistical aspects of recruitment activities
  • Provides support to faculty, staff and students as related to the program
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

Additional Functions:
  • Supports the creation and design of promotional and marketing materials using tools such as Canva, Adobe Suite, or similar platforms
  • Assists in drafting and editing program communications, including emails, announcements, and website content
  • Maintains program websites ensuring timely updates and consistent branding
  • Helps track and analyze engagement metrics from outreach efforts to inform future strategies
  • Supports the development and maintenance of program documentation, templates, and internal communications resources
